The Pentagram is a good way of protecting yourself from negative energies. Below is a quick summary of what the pentagram represents, some ways to use it, and its history. Please see the protection page as well.
I have seen the elements positioned in other ways, but this is the way that makes the most sense to me. Earth and water are grounding elements, and fire and air are the action elements. The spirit is always on top, to show that it is most important over all. Some Wiccans/Pagans may use the inverted Pentagram, but this isn't common. The pentagram isn't the symbol of a devil worshipper! Satanists most often use the inverted pentagram! If you look spirit is at the bottom, showing it to be inferior to material objects. Not only that, the inverted pentagram also looks like a goat head. Don't think the pentagram is the sign of a devil worshiper!!

This symbolizes bringing the spirt down to Earth. For protection or banishing start from lower left, I'll try to make an animation soon. Remember, when the pentagram has a protection circle around it, it is called a pentacle. After some browsing of Wiccan/Pagan sites, I found it interesting that the official flag of Ethiopia has a pentagram on on it! ![]() I did some quick research (plus I didn't want to copy anything off the sites!). Ethiopia is in Africa, and one of the oldest countries that has no history of colonization. The pentagram is the National Coat of Arms for the country. One of the the things it represents is unity and equaility. The Coat of Arms has changed with the goverments, but the flag above is the offical flag. Ethiopian Orthodox and Muslim are the biggest religion, each representing about 40% of the population!
