SMEAT Smeat are from Chico in Northern California and they really kick ass. They play hardcore the way it should be played and their lyrics are really great, against all this politically q-erect shit these days. I hope they’ll conquer the world to conquer it and destroy it soon. Really, they are nowadays one of my favourite band. Here is my interview with bassist/insulter Steve Worthless : ITFOR-
STEVE-Basically our sound and attitude comes from whatever we're feeling at the time. it just so happens that we're normally only motivated to "write songs" when we're pissed off about something. it's definitely for the best though seeing as how this outlet is keeping us all out of therapy and prison.
ITFOR-Do you think that it's important to be DIY???
STEVE- I don't want to sound like a DIY snob but it seems to me that the only time things get done right and with feeling is when it's DIY. it's always good to get help when you need it, but it seems like people tend to opt for just handing over their autonomy for money and ease. most people would rather have someone else do all the work and decision making so their lives become easier. this is why the masses will always support authoritarian governments despite the misleading labels of democracy or communism.
ITFOR-You seems very anti-government, what do you think of your country???
STEVE- Like all countries the united states has it's share of problems. it seems to me though that we're generally one of the most fucked up countries on this rock. we got all the isms (sexism, racism, capitalism, egocentricism, etc) as well as the apathy, violence and comfort tha material possession acquired through deficit spending. I think it's unfair of me to rag only on the us, every where is fucked up. thus is the nature of government. whenever people give up the power of decision making to a representative government, a dictator or whatever shit goes bad.
ITFOR- Do you think that the election that are coming in the United States will change something that???
STEVE- I don't think that anything will change in this country for the better until a new party is elected into power. we got two centrist corporate backed parties right now with almost identical platforms. it's the wonderful illusion of democracy within a modern feudal system. it doesn't matter if one vote republican or democrat, we get the same crappy corporate puppet.
ITFOR-Your sound is like from the good Ol'days, is there some bands in today's scene that impress you???
STEVE-Right now what really impresses me personally are the crazier bands I heard from over sees that don't really sound like anything I’ve ever heard before. right now I’m way into Melt Banana for Japan and Atari Teenage Riot from Germany. these two bands are in my opinion the most innovative bands around. they're both making shit that hasn't ever been made before. it's amazing.
ITFOR-Do you believe in freedom and justice???
STEVE- I believe in the philosophies of freedom and justice. I don't believe in what is passed as freedom and justice in the united states. what we have I think is clearly a class based sham. how can we have freedom and justice in a clearly crapitalistic system where we are conditioned to sell ourselves into servitude with credit cards in the pursuit of comfort and convenience?
ITFOR-Do you think that killing all the humans from this planet will be a good solution for earth's global equilibrium???
STEVE- From an environmentalist view I think it is clearly the only workable solution to restoring balance to the world. it's that or going back to a communal agrarian lifestyle... but who want's to live like a fuckin hippie?
ITFOR-What's your vision of a perfect world???
STEVE-one with out people.
ITFOR-any final toughts???
STEVE-beer and sex are good.
-The answer to all your girl problems is at the end of your arm.
-Astroglide is almost as good as the real thing.
-if you pull your balls away from your body while you're "shaking hands with the unemployed" and let go right as you cum, you'll get better distance.
-A finger in the ass while "holding a staff meeting" never killed anyone.
