Club Speical: The Real Gertrude

The Real Gertrude

One day, Gertrude sat in her room wondering why her plan wasn't working. She looked at what she had wrote in her notebook. She had followed every step perfectly. Then, why did the plan backfire so badly? She decided she had to totally revise her plan.

Liam's telephone rang.

"Hello?" Liam ansewered.

"Hey, Liam." It was Andy.

"Hi, Andy."

"Gertrude just called me and she wanted me to go to dinner with her but, she also mentioned to invite you and Noel along." Andy said.

"Oh. Really?" Liam said, scared to ansewer.

"Would you please come? We'd love to have you along. I know you don't fancy Gertrude too well, I can tell. But, I'm sure once you get to know her, you'd become friends." Andy begged.

"Oh, okay. But, I'm not sure what Noel will say."

"Well, just try to convince him."

"I'll try."

Liam called up Noel.

"Hello?" Noel ansewered.

"Noel, Andy wants us to go to dinner with him." Liam said.

Oh, that would be great. Andy is great dinner company, you know." Noel said.

"Yes, he is."

"Do you want to ride together or separate?" Noel asked.

"How about we ride separate and meet there together?" Liam sugguested.

"Okay, that'll work. Bye!" Noel said.

Liam said this part really fast:

"Oh, wait! By the way, Gertrude will be there, too, Bye! Liam hung up before Noel could object.

Liam got to the resturant and Noel was standing there, looking irritated. Liam got out of the car.

"Liam, I can't believe you did this. Gertrude? It's so cruel! Why, Liam? Why?" Noel asked, sounding like he felt betrayed.

"Because Andy really wants us to come, he know we don't like her and he says if we get to know her better, we'll like her, even be friends with her-"

"I don't think so!" Noel interrupted. "I don't want to shut Andy out and not go out places with him just because he's dating Gertrude so, I'm going." Liam said.

"Well, why drag me along, too?" Noel asked.

"Because I don't want to face Gertrude alone." Liam said.

Noel groaned. "You're such a baby!" Noel complained.

"Well, would you want to face her along?" Liam asked.

"Well, no, I guess not." Noel realized.

"Besides, Andy wanted you to come, too. I suspect he's really afraid of her, too!"

"Who wouldn't be?"

"Come, on! Let's go!" Liam was sick of just talking about Gertrude and not doing waht they were supposed to be doing.

"Oh, you're such a teaser!" Noel said, imitating Gertrude.

Liam busted up laughing.

They walked into the resturant. Liam saw Gertrude, he had to admit, she looked good, she had good style but, she a scary and over-bearing personality.

"Hi, Liam." Gertrude said.

"There's a seat open next to me." She said to Liam.

"Um, okay." She seemed calm so far.

"Thanks for coming, Noel" Andy said.

"Uh, no problem?" Noel wasn't sure what to say, espeically since Gertrude was sitting right there.

"So, Liam, where do you do your shopping?" Gertrude asked.

"I like to shop when I'm on tour. I like the stores at the big cities." Liam replied.

"That must be great."

"Yeah, it's fun." Liam replied.

After they are. Andy and Noel got up to go to the bathroom.

"You know, Liam. Anytime you want someone to go to lunch with, give me a call." She said as she wrote her number on a napkin.

"Okay." Liam took the napkin.

The next day, Andy called Liam.

"Liam, I don't know what to do, I need out of this relaionship with Gertrude." Andy told Liam.

"Why? I thought you really liked her." Liam replied.

"Not anymore, it was just infatuation. I just lost interest. But, the problem is I'm afraid I'll hurt her, I don't know how to tell her." Andy said.

"Well, the best you can do is to tell her that you're sorry but, the relaionship isn't working out the way you expected or something like that, just let her down easy."

"Okay, thanks." Andy hung up.

Two days later, Liam's door bell rang.

"He ansewered the door and it was Gertrude.

"Oh, hi Gertrude." Liam said, surprised and a little worried that she was mad.

"Liam, its time I told you something, sit down." She said.

They both sat down.

Gertrude started talking: "From the fist moment I saw you, I was in love with you. But, I never knew how to act around you. See, my parents were hillbillies and they loved to say 'you're such a teaser' to each other and so, I grew up thinking that was normal, that guys would be attracted to me if I did that and since guys didn't seem to like that, I thought they wouldn't like me at all. So, that's why I acted around you like I did. And I only dated Andy so, I would be around you more. I really like you, Liam. I know you probably don't like me because of the way I acted around you but, that's now really the real me."

"You really like me? I never thought you did. I thought you hated me." Liam said.

"Would you go out with me?" Gertrude asked.

"Yeah, Love, I will!"
