Punktuation-So this is Honey I PUNK the Kids, and we are here with...
John
P-From...
Zero Down
P-Alright. So who are the other members of the band?
ZD-Jim, he was in Pulley and Strung Out, and Milo and he was in Down By Law.
P-And where are you guys from?
ZD-Los Angeles.
P-What do you think of the scene there?
ZD-It's shit.
P-Is it? Why?
ZD-It's just not as good as here!
P-Really?
ZD-We love Canada!
P-Really??
ZD-Yeah it's the best! I think it's the best!
P-Is this your first time in Canada?
ZD-Yeah, the people are so nice!
P-K, now I guess we don't have to ask how the scene is in Canada compared to the states!
Laughter
ZD-It's great! It's great, I love it! I mean, everyone's so nice, and you know, the shows are great, the kids get into it...
P-I have a story to tell. One time I was in Seattle, and I was going into a restaurant and I held the door open for a lady who was coming into the restaurant, and she was like "You must not be from around this part because people from around here don't do that."
ZD-Some people do it, it's not that bad.
Laughter
P-How would you decribe your style of music to someone who has never heard of your group before?
ZD-Oh man, that's hard. Late 80s, early 90s punk. Kind of Bad Religion, Kind of Face To Face, kind of...you know, a little Strung Out, Pulley...
P-I think the vocals are pretty unique too.
ZD-You think so?
P-Yeah.
ZD-I do too.
P-If you could have one song on any movie soundtrack, what movie would that be?
ZD-Oh god....I don't know...
P-It could be on Pump Up The Volume...or...
ZD-I've never even seen that.
P-Oh really?
ZD-Really.
P-You should see it, it's good!
ZD-Alright, well...
P-That one?
Laughter
ZD-Yeah sure, that'll work!
P-K, what do you guys promote through your music?
ZD-I mean, it's just the ups and downs of life, you know? Being broke, and trying to just make it through. Just to be positive.
P-So you told us that this is only your sixth time playing live?
ZD-It's the sixth gig, yeah.
P-Really?
ZD-Yup. The record just came out on the 23rd, and then we played two shows before, we played the third one in Vancouver, and then, here we are.
P-So how do you put a CD out and form a new group and then become third, on a tour that tours across North America?
ZD-Second. Just lucky. We've all been in other bands, and there you go.
P-And what other bands have you been in?
ZD-War Called Peace, Nipdrivers, Don't Know
P-How do those bands compare to this one?
ZD-I love this band, it's fun.
P-What do you think was the best musical era?
ZD-I like everything. So, I can't say. I don't really listen to that much punk, I do listen to a lot, but, you know, I listen to everything. I can't tell you what everything I listen to is cause you guys would go AHHHH!
P-What are some of the best records you've heard lately?
ZD-Lately?
P-Or in your history of listening to music.
ZD-There's all kinds. I really love Propagandhi right now. You know, their new record is just sick, it's great. Those guys are awesome.
P-Have you played with them?
ZD-No, I haven't, Jim has.
P-Oh yeah?
ZD-Yeah.
P-Do you think that the punk and hardcore scene is becoming more positive, or is it more negative than it used to be?
ZD-It's more positive cause there's not gangs and stuff. A long time ago when I was doing gigs, there was a lot of gangs. Suicidal Tendencies and stuff, and it was just a lot of gangs. It's a lot friendlier now.
P-That's good. What do you guys do apart from playing in a band?
ZD-Work.
P-Work?
ZD-Yeah.
P-Do you skateboard?
ZD-Snowboard and all that stuff.
P-You snowboard?
ZD-Yeah.
P-Awesome, how long?
ZD-Oh god, like three years I guess. You guys snowboard every day probably!
P-Weekly kinda. It's pretty expensive though, but yeah we do. What kind of hills do you have there?
ZD-Nothing compared to this. You know what I mean? It's icy in California, Tahoe's good, Mammoth's good.
P-Have you been to Mount Hood in Portland?
ZD-No.
P-No? I want to go there, it's supposed to be really good. So who do you think revolutionalized music? Was it the Beatles, or Michael Jackson...?
ZD-What style?
P-Umm...
ZD-What style huh???
Laughter
P-Now I'm getting asked questions? Okay, punk.
ZD-Punk...it's probably, you know, the Ramones.
P-Ramones?
ZD-Yeah.
P-Totally. K, and I think that's about it.
ZD-Thank you.
P-Do you have anything else you'd like to say?
ZD-We love Canada!
P-Sweet!
ZD-Buy our record!
P-Is there anywhere we can check you out online?
ZD-Oh yeah...Zero Down music dot com or the Fat Wreck Chords website.
P-Cool. Thank you!
ZD-Alright, thank you guys, you guys were great!
