Explaining to Meelina

A/N Guess where I am, come on guess . . . I’m at the movies. Yes, I got there an hour early so I got out my handy, dandy notebook . . . someone kill me! I did not just write that. Please enjoy. Guess which movie I saw? I'll give youa hint. A funny movie with Robin Williams.

Meelina walked upstairs, and lightly tapped on Leaf’s door. She was quite flabbergasted about why Leaf would bring over a naked boy. And it was about time she was filled in on everything.

"Leaf? Is he dressed?" Meelina certainly hoped so, they had been in there long enough.

Leaf looked toward the door, then back to a now dressed Key. Key smiled warmly at Leaf making his insides flutter. Leaf was very confused at the moment. He had never had a feeling like that before.

"Uh, yeah Meelina," Leaf called to his mom.

Leaf blushed at the memory of Key getting dressed. It seemed that Key had no idea what clothes even were, and could in no way figure out how to put them on. So it was up to Leaf to dress him.

It had been rather embarrassing. Key was very sensitive to the touch. He laughed and squirmed, making it very difficult for Leaf to dress him.

Meelina leaned against the door, running a hand over her forehead. It was a hot day, and she was sweltering. "Okay, now do you mind telling me WHY you brought a naked boy home."

Leaf looked at Key, his index finger, twirling in his long brown hair; his mind was still on the question Key had asked earlier.

"Leaf?" Meelina shouted, when she didn’t get an answer.

Jumping, Leaf smiled, when he saw that his action made Key giggle like a little innocent child. That was what he acted like. A child.

"What?"

Sighing, Meelina looked up at the ceiling, "I said; Please explain why you brought home a naked boy."

Leaf walked over to his door, opening it. Meelina shrieked, falling in.

Key giggled, but quickly covered his mouth, when Leaf shot him a warning look.

"Sorry," Leaf muttered, "didn’t know you were leaning against it."

Smiling, Meelina went to sit on the bed next to Key. "That’s fine. Now tell me, what’s going on."

"It’s like this . . . " Leaf went over everything. About how he met Key, passed out on the ground. How when after he awoke, he started to call him master. The only thing Leaf didn’t tell her was how Key acted around him, calling him handsome and hugging him and how he reacted to him.

Meelina looked at Key, with wide eyes, "my, that’s some tale." She continued to stare at the mysterious silver haired teen, wondering where he came from.

Leaf nodded, "yep." Leaf looked over at Key, who was playing with his bedspread, "so what should we do about him?"

At hearing this Key looked over at Leaf, his wide eyes blinking rapidly, "M..Master..."

Leaf sighed, shaking his head.

"I mean, Leaf, please don’t send Key away." Key smiled brightly.

Meelina looked at the boy, seeing something in his eyes. Fear. At once Meelina’s heart broke. The boy may have been acting all cheerful, but she could detect how scared he was about everything. "Of course not, honey."

"Meelina," Leaf questioned, raising an eyebrow?

"Well we can’t send him away, now can we? It’s obvious; he was brainwashed or something." Meelina leaned closer to her son, putting her mouth by his ear, "probably abused too. Look at his face; his eyes," she whispered.

Leaf did as he was told, and sure enough he could see the fear and confusion in Key’s eyes. Key hid them almost too well, with his childlike cheerfulness. Leaf knew he probably wouldn’t have noticed it, hadn’t his mom pointed it out.

"I guess it’s okay." Leaf smiled. In truth he didn’t want the boy to leave; he felt connected to him somehow. "You can stay, right Meelina?" Meelina nodded.

Key smiled and clapped his hands in glee, "yay." Jumping off Leaf’s bed, Key ran around to the other side, where Leaf was sitting, jumping on him and hugging him tight. "Thank you . . . Leaf."

"S..sure," Leaf said, while trying to pull away. But once again, Key proved that he was stronger then he looked; Leaf just couldn’t get loose.

Meelina watched as her son struggled to get away from the smaller teen, a flash of amusement crossing over her face.

So I was right, she thought as she watched Leaf’s face get redder and redder. A mother always does know.

she thought as she watched Leaf’s face get redder and redder.

Key looked over at Meelina, and flashed her a wide smile, letting go of Leaf. Leaf sighed, thankful to be released.

Meelina smiled back at Key, startled when he climbed over the bed, giving her a hug, when he got close enough. "Thank you too, Leaf’s mom."

Meelina laughed, "you’re welcome, Key. But please call me Meelina; everyone does."

Key nodded, letting go of Meelina, "okay, I’ll call you Meelina."

Leaf yawned, making Meelina frown, "mister, you were up late last night, weren’t you?"

Leaf ducked as a rolled up sock came flying at his head. He rolled his eyes, sending his mother a ‘how old are you’ look.

Meelina laughed, throwing another pair. "What did I tell you?"

"Go to bed at a decent hour, blah, blah, blah. Yeah, I know, but I saw something that made me lose track of time."

Key looked at Leaf, with a curious look on his face.

"And?" Meelina went to throw another sock, but stopped, making a ‘gross’ face, dropping the sock on the ground.

"Well lights." Leaf didn’t know how to explain the lights he had seen while on the roof.

"Lights," Meelina rolled her eyes, "that kept you up?"

"Yes, it was like I was in a daze; I couldn’t stop looking at them."

"Strange," Meelina muttered, tossing a look at Key, who was chasing a soccer ball around the room.

Leaf nodded, "yes, I thought so too. Then after I watched them for a while; I went down to my room and practically passed out; still dressed."

Meelina and Leaf’s attention was directed over to Key, when they heard a startled yelp.

"Arf, arf, arf," Leaf’s pet dog, Miley barked. Her barking was frantic, like she was really scared. She was looking at Key, her fur standing up, almost like an angry cat.

Key was backed up in a corner, holding the soccer ball in front of him in his shaking hands; his eyes were wide in fright.

At once Leaf ran over to Key and started to talk to him in a soothing voice, "hey, it’s okay. It’s just our pet dog. Miley."

Meelina looked at Miley, completely at a loss for words. Why was she acting like that? "Miley, shoo," Meelina said, waving the dog away. Miley gave one last bark, but minded her owner, leaving the room.

Key stopped shaking, but he still looked scared.

"Look, Key. She’s gone." Leaf patted the smaller teen on the head.

Tears started to pour down Key’s pale cheeks.

"Mom, I don’t think he’s ever seen a dog," Leaf told Meelina, feeling just as confused as she looked.

"I get that impression too."

Key stood up with Leaf’s help. Leaf patted the boy on the back, "don’t worry, we’ll keep her outside. I have no idea why she was acting that way. I’m sorry."

Key shrugged, "Leaf no need to say sorry. Key is fine now." Key smiled, wiping his wet face.

Meelina walked over to Leaf’s door, "I’ll go put her out. Then I’ll call your school; they’re going to wonder why you didn’t show up. I also expect Hero, Manna and Toni are worrying about you."

Leaf nodded. His friends would be worrying. His best friend and his twin sister Manna definitely would wonder where he was and Toni Strong, his fifteen year-old friend who had self-appointed herself as his little sister would start to fret.

"Yeah, you do that, Meelina. I’ll stay with him, to make sure he’s really okay." Leaf watched as his mother left, then turned to Key. "Are you really okay?"

Key looked down, cutely biting his bottom lip, "she doesn’t like Key, does she?"

Leaf frowned, "no, that’s not it; she’s just not used to strangers."

"Oh."

"So are you okay?"

Key stepped closer to Leaf, bringing his lips very close to Leaf’s ear. "I’m very okay, Leaf."

Leaf shivered, feeling Key’s breath tickle his ear. "G...good."

Hero Menagawa, who was holding his twin sister, Manna’s hand, slowly led the girl home.

He looked at his younger sister, worry clearly on his face. He hated it that she never talked; well hardly talked. There was those rare moments when she did speak.

It had happened a few years back when both were about fourteen, Manna had left school by herself, saying she was going to go straight home; but she never showed up at the house. Mr. and Mrs. Menagawa had called the police and they and most of the town had frantically looked for the young girl. But she was nowhere to be found.

Then out of the blue, she showed up on the doorstep, dazed and confused. Nobody could get her to tell them what happened to her. She stayed closed up. Hero and their friends knew she had to of been traumatized.

"Wonder what happened to Leaf," Hero said, knowing Manna wouldn’t answer with words. Just expressions and hand movements; that Hero could translate no problem. That was something that came with being CLOSE twins.

Manna scrunched her face up, then held her arms out wide.

"You have no idea what could of happened to him?"

Manna gave a small smile and nodded.

"I hope he’s okay," Hero whispered.

Manna frowned, concerned for her brother. When Hero looked up at her again, she quickly smiled, giving two thumbs up.

"I hope you are right; that Leaf’s okay."

Manna nodded, and made a little ‘mmm’ sound.

They were just one block away from the school, when their other friend, Toni Strong ran up to them, her long blonde hair flowing in the breeze.

"Wait up, you two!"

Manna and Hero stopped walking and turned around waiting for Toni.

Toni caught up with them. She looked up at Hero and Manna, gasping for breath. "Shesh it wouldn’t of hurt for you guys to wait for me," Toni pouted.

Manna giggled, pointing at Hero.

"So it’s his fault." Toni stomped her foot. "Hero . . . you meany."

"Aw, I was worried about Leaf; so I left right away." Hero looked at Toni with wide eyes, a mock look of sadness passing over his face, "don’t be mad at me Toni."

Toni snorted, "as if I ever really was. And Hey, I’m just as worried as you two are."

Manna flashed her best friend a look that said something, only Toni could understand.

Toni caught the look and nodded.

Hero started to grumble. "Girls," he muttered, "stupid girls only code."

Toni laughed, and Manna smiled. I’m right though, Manna thought. My brother likes Leaf.
