A Happy Ending

Warning: Angst ahead, character torture… hehe, sorry Wakka.

In shock over what he had done, Wakka walked over to his bed, sitting down; he placed his head in his hands, sighing.

Why in the world did he do a thing like that? Now he ruined something he treasured more then anything. His and Tidus’ friendship would be over forever.

Tidus blinked, touching his lips, which were now tingling. It wasn’t all like that truth or dare kiss; somehow it was different.

Wakka’s true feelings for him were put into that one little peck on the lips.

He was a little slow, sure, but Tidus understood, or at least he thought he did.

“I-I think I understand…” Tidus mumbled.

Wakka glanced up at Tidus, tears pooling in the corner of his brown eyes; he blinked and the tears overflowed, running down his cheeks.

Embarrassed, Wakka rubbed at his cheeks.

“Yeah, I’m sorry,” Wakka whispered. “I didn’t mean for something like this to happen; it just did. I fell in love with you; I love you.”

Tidus nodded, “I-I see.”

“We can pretend this never happened; I don’t want you to hate me and I don’t want this to ruin our friendship.”

“H-hate; r-ruin?” Tidus walked over to Wakka’s bed and set down next to him.

He wasn’t sure if he had feelings to return to Wakka, but he knew that no matter what he could never hate Wakka. He wanted them to be friends forever and ever.

“Wakka, I could never hate you and I still want to be your friend.”

Wakka smiled, though it was a painful smile. Friend. They would always be just friends, wouldn’t they?

But if that’s all he could have, then he’d take it.

“I’m glad.” Wakka said, “Tidus, would it be all right if I hugged you?”

Tidus blushed.

“I really could use one, ya know.” Wakka was feeling pathetically needy at the moment, but who cold blame him?

Tidus glanced down, biting his lower lip. What could one little hug hurt, right?

“I guess,” he whispered.

Wakka smiled, leaning over and pulling Tidus into his arms. This felt so right; Tidus fit perfectly in his arms. If only things could be different. If only Tidus could like him back. If only.

Tidus closed his eyes, getting comfortable in Wakka’s arms. He’d be lying if he said he wasn’t enjoying this. Wakka was like a big teddy bear meant for snuggling. Tidus felt so safe in his arms.

Hot tears trickled down Wakka’s cheeks and this time Wakka did noting to stop the flow. In a small splash, they landed on Tidus’ neck, then ran down his back.

Tidus’ felt his breath catch in his throat as he felt tear after tear trickle down his spine. Without even thinking, Tidus tightened his hold on Wakka, tears coming to his own eyes. It really killed him that he was the cause of Wakka’s pain.

‘Can this much pain really be from sympathy alone?’ Tidus wondered, feeling his heart clench; it was as if someone had reached into his chest and grabbed his vital organ, squeezing with all their might.

Wakka pulled away from Tidus, standing up. He looked up at the ceiling, a far off look in his brown eyes. It was as if he was thinking really hard about something.

“Tidus…?” Wakka whispered, still looking up and not at Tidus.

“Hmm?” Tidus mumbled, glancing through his blond bangs at Wakka.

“Do you want to go home?” Wakka asked, figuring that must be what Tidus wanted to do; it must be really uncomfortable for Tidus.

Tidus glanced out Wakka’s window, at his empty house. Did he want to go home? Sure it did feel a little awkward being all alone with Wakka after he kissed him, admitting his feelings, but Tidus really didn’t want to leave; he didn’t want to be alone… he wanted to stay with Wakka.

“But, Wakka… is it okay if I stay?” Tidus asked, wondering if Wakka wanted him to leave.

Wakka blinked; he hadn’t expected that. He’d expected Tidus to run off as soon as the chance was given to him.

“Of course it’s okay for you to stay, Tidus. I figured you’d want to leave… I mean, I don’t want to make you uncomfortable.” Wakka mumbled.

Tidus gave a small smile, “umm, well, I do feel a little…” Tidus fumbled around for the right word, but he was at a lose for what word would work in a situation like this. “… strange, I guess… I never expected something like this to happen to me… Umm, I’m sorry…” Tidus looked down.

Wakka watched Tidus with interested eyes as the teen talked; he could tell that his actions had Tidus very confused and he was so sorry he made the other go through this.

“Why are you sorry?” Wakka asked, “you didn’t do anything.”

“Because!” Tidus said his blue eyes wide, “I wish I had something to say to you, whether it’s good or bad news… I just wish I could tell you something.”

“B-but… but, I don’t understand my feelings… I don’t understand how I feel… feel about you.” Tidus lowered his head, slumping over.

Wakka’s heart broke; now he felt even worse. His confession turned Tidus into a confused puddle on his bed.

Taking a deep breath, Wakka walked over to Tidus, kneeling down next to him; he reached out, taking Tidus’ hands in his.

“It’s okay; we’ll get through this together. Me and you.” Wakka smiled.

Tidus looked up, into Wakka’s eyes. “We will?”

“Yes. I’m not going to force my feelings on you, Tidus, so don’t worry your pretty little head, kay?”

Tidus blushed, sniffling.

“You can take all the time you need to understand your feelings. If it turns out you feel the same way, then great, but if not… I’ll move on.” Wakka said firmly.

---

“What’s wrong with Wakka and Tidus?” Rikku whispered to the people around her.

Yuffie and Selphie, who were laying on the grass looked over at Rikku, “what do you mean?” Selphie asked.

“Well they’ve been avoiding each other for the last few weeks… Wakka always looks like he’s on the verge of tears and Tidus always looks like a deer caught in headlights when he’s eye to eye with Wakka.”

Chappu plopped down on the grass next to the three girls, Luzzu close behind him.

“Hey, Chappu!” Rikku yelled, “do you know what’s wrong with your brother and Tidus?”

Chappu glanced down, “yeah, but…”

Luzzu jumped in, “you know Rikku, it’s not really Chappu’s place to tell you all what’s going on.”

Rikku pouted, “but you know, right?”

Luzzu shook his head, “actually, no. Chappu is loyal to his brother and won’t tell me a thing.”

Rikku glanced at Chappu, “all right, I get it, but I still don’t like it.” Wakka and Tidus were her friends and she hated seeing them this way; she wished she knew what was wrong, so maybe, just maybe she could find a way to fix it.

But there’s some things you can’t fix, no matter what you do. Rikku didn’t know that this was one of those things; if it were meant to be fixed, it would do so on it’s own.

---

Wakka looked across the busy intersection; Tidus had just crossed it on his way home. For the last three weeks, ever since Wakka confessed his feelings, Tidus had been walking to and from school, rejecting Chappu’s offer for a ride.

Tidus told Wakka from the start, that he just needed time; time alone to think, so the two barely had any contact.

Wakka was getting sick of this; he shook his head, ‘I can’t believe I’ve sunk so low, that I’ve taken up stalking him home…’ Wakka sighed, turning away from the sight of Tidus, and started to head back to school.

The next few moments for Wakka was a blur; he heard the screech of tires, then smelt a overwhelming stench of sulfur.

It never accrued to him that he was laying in the middle of the street, blood pooled around him. He just wondered what that annoying sound was; why were people screaming; why did his head hurt so much?

He had so many questions, but none were voiced; he tried to move his mouth, getting frustrated when no sound came out.

“Just hold on; everything will be okay.” Wakka faintly heard as he passed out.

---

“Wakka!” Tidus screeched, turning when he heard the sounds of a screeching car. What he saw made his blood run cold.

“Wakka!” Tidus yelled again, starting to run across the street to get to where Wakka was.

“Whoa there, buddy.” Someone said grabbing Tidus by the middle. “That’s a busy street; you can’t just run across.”

“Let me go!” Tidus cried, struggling to get loose.

“There’s nothing you can do for him,” the stranger bluntly said, “let the professionals handle things.”

Just then the sound of sirens could be heard and Tidus watched as a paramedic jumped out of a ambulance, running over to Wakka’s unmoving form.

“Ow!” the man holding Tidus yelled when Tidus bit his hand. “Hey, you, get back here…” the man yelled as Tidus managed to get out of his arms, running straight into the street.

Tidus didn’t know how he did it, but he made it to the other side of the street without being hit.

“Please,” Tidus cried, falling on his knees, “be okay.”

Blood gurgled out of Wakka’s mouth as he coughed a few times; his eyes rolled into the back of his head.

“Just hold on; everything will be okay.” Tidus said to Wakka, more for his own benefit, then Wakka’s.

---

Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep.

Tidus held his head, tears falling down his cheeks. Mai and Hiro Thomas were in the room, looking as upset as Tidus felt.

At the moment they were all at the local hospital, in Wakka’s room. Wakka was still out of it and there was no telling when he’d wake up. And sadly, if he’d wake up.

Chappu rushed into the room, his eyes wide and his hair wild. He rushed over as soon as he heard something was up. His heart beating a mile a minute, Chappu looked around the room, seeing Wakka’s still form on the bed.

“Oh, God…” Chappu put a hand over his mouth, gagging. Mai started to sob, throwing herself into Hiro’s waiting arms. Chappu walked over to Wakka’s bed, silently looking down at him.

“H-hey bro,” Chappu said in a shaky voice.

“You can’t go in there.” Everyone heard someone yell.

Everyone looked to the door, seeing a angry doctor trying to keep two girls from entering the room; Mai and Hiro raised their eyebrows.

“I’m sorry for the interruption, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas, these girls insist they’re family.”

“Let us in!” Lulu yelled, trying to get out of the doctor’s arms. “I’m his sister! He said… he said… I was his sister…”

“Lu, calm down.” Quistis, who was not fighting the doctor, said. She was standing calmly to the side, a sad look on her face.

Mai pulled away from Hiro, walking over to the doctor and the struggling girl.

“Mr. Sanchez, release her at once. Lulu is family. Let the girls in.”

Lulu pulled out of Mr. Sanchez’s arms, throwing him a dirty look; she straightened her clothes, then looked at Mai.

“Thank you,” she whispered, rushing over to Wakka’s bed.

Mai nodded, then looked at the doctor, “let anyone in that wants to come in. Wakka would want his friends to be able to visit him.”

Mr. Sanchez nodded, walking out of the room.

---

“Stupid!” Tidus glared down at Wakka, who still hadn’t woke up. It was a school day and everyone was at school, but Tidus had skipped. At the moment he was the only one in Wakka’s room. Wakka had been in a coma for a week.

“Stupid, why’d you do something like that? You were following me, weren’t you? Why? Why? Why?” Tidus cried.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry! I shouldn’t have avoided you for so long.” Tidus hung his head.

“Wakka, I don’t want you to die.” Tidus whispered. “I’ve just now realized…”

Tears fell down Tidus’ cheeks. ‘I love you.’ Tidus glanced up.

“Please wake up!”

Tidus stomped his foot when he got no reaction whatsoever from Wakka.

“Stupid!”

“You keep saying that a lot.” A raspy voice whispered. Tidus’ shocked eyes flew up, meeting Wakka’s brown orbs.

“W-Wakka?” Tidus gasped. Tidus started to sob hysterically, “y-you’re awake.”

“Yeah,” Wakka said, confused as to where he was; how he got there.

Tidus grinned, tears still falling down his pale cheeks, “I keep saying it because it’s true.”

“I’m stupid?” Wakka said. “I’m in a hospital,” Wakka murmured.

“Yes, you’re stupid and you just realized that?” Tidus set on the edge of Wakka’s bed.

“You were hit by a car, Wakka. You’ve been in a coma for a week. W-we didn’t know if you were ever going to wake up.” Tidus said, his voice shaky.

“And you’re stupid because the only reason you got hit was because you were following me and not paying attention to your surroundings.”

Wakka glanced down. He remembered that he’d been following Tidus… and then everything was blank.

“I’m sorry I made you wor-”

Wakka’s voice cut off, his eyes wide as Tidus boldly leaned over, kissing him on the lips.

“You better be sorry,” Tidus said, pulling away from Wakka.

“Tidus… what was that?” Wakka whispered in a shocked voice; he shakily reached up, touching his lips.

“That was me saying, I love you, too.” Tidus flushed.

“No more car accidents, kay?” Tidus smiled, grabbing hold of Wakka’s hands.

Wakka blinked, swallowing hard. A blinding smile broke out across the redhead’s face, “deal! No more car accidents, I promise.”

Tidus sighed, “good.”

Leaning forward, Tidus wrapped his arms around Wakka. He held onto him as tight as the other could stand.

“Everyone will be so thrilled.” Tidus spoke against Wakka’s neck. “They’ve been so worried… I’ve been so worried.”

“I’m sor-”

Tidus decided he’d let Wakka apologize later; right now all he wanted to do was stay nestle in Wakka’s arms, sharing sweet kisses, at least until the doctors chased him out of the room.

Fin!

Wow! Can’t believe I’ve finally finished this! I’m so happy, yet sad to get one of my fics finished. I hope you enjoyed and please review!
