Hi everyone,, in my 3-D class we where asked to make a wooden sculpture,, I'll describe mine to you.. I made a punk rocker holding a National State of Emergency Flag. HE was all natural with a couple of found objects.. His head had bright green plant leaves cut into a MoHawk, with rose pettle eyes his head and shoulders where twigs that I wove together,, his body was a picture frame i found in the mud,, he had a little heart dangling down that retch and I found on the side walk walking around,,his arms where sticks that held about a five foot thorn with an upside down American Flag,, he had a couple of buttons on him that we made, his legs were made of sticks and lumber he stood about 4 and a half feet tall.
On the due date as a class we critique the work,, the teacher really made almost nasty comments about the work,, that aren't worth repeating,, I tried to explain the significance of the piece but it didn't make a difference and she kind of made fun of our culture and beliefs,,this really pissed me off so after class I went to the computer lab and typed up a paper explaining the piece,, so here is what I wrote

The sticks are woven together to represent a traditionalist Life style, one without corporations, one of living off the land.
The Discarded Picture Frame(trash), is the ruins of a wasteful civilization. A society built on capitalism and inequality.
The Heart equals PunkLife. Showing us a culture of Mutual Respect and Responsibility. A love for your sisters, brothers and your Mother Earth,
The Signal of Oppression. National State of Emergency (also Known as an Upside down Flag) is an iconoclasm, the Death of a Nation based on Racism, and Sexism. Columbus was a Theif, Murderer, and a Rapist. (305 children die each day from malnutirtion and starvation in Iraq do to the United States Economic Sanctions, where we ban chlorine to sterilize drinking water because it is considered a dual purpose product, which means it has potential to be made into weapons.)
The Buttons signifies the Tools we must create for our way of life without Masters or Leaders, one of Self-Determination, Order and Equality. Educate.Liberate. LearnTeachAnokPeace
The Eyes allowing us to see our mistakes, learn from the past, and tell the difference from the reality of things and the Social reflection's of a generation who's parents have sold them out.,,, ,,However they see no Color, Sex, or Age only you and I.
The Spirit Locks cut into a Mohawk define how Punk is the Mind, Body, and Spirit. Your mind is the Revolution: the choices you have made and your beliefs. Body: You must be as physically fit as well as intellegent to defend justice on all fronts. You must become one with another, work in collectives, small cells, and affinity groups. Organize your wisdom on a level superior to the common man, that exists in the spirt, doing so will allow you to realize the failure and coruption of mans ways.
After writting this I put it up next to my sculpture,, I felt alot better. Lots of people saw it and it sparked both conversation and contraversy.
