7.5.8: mobi`backup/pedester -- ground zero

ground-zero construction

7.3.4:
. could all types of construction be done on the road?
there are actually more options on the road,
since there is the possibility of learning to weld .

5.9.21: mobilehome seed kit

7.4.25: intro
. a backup seed kit is a starts with the assumption that you have nothing but money and a local hardware store;
and it's a stepping stone for getting from a disaster to another secure mobile situation .
2.9.5:
. there may be available pre-built trailers that could serve as the base of it
. come to the store with a device that lets you attach the trailer to a bike,
and then tow the trailer full of home parts to a secluded place where it.s cool to build it

5.9.21:
. to develope a kit, you start by looking around the hardware store for what's available
 7.3.31: dolly first:
. when starting from scratch, the first thing to do is buy a dolly
so that you don't need to build the trailer kit on-site in the store`s parking lot .

5.9.24:
 . the kit should allow a design where
the trailer is attached to a bike with small wheels (such as the folding bike),
in such a way as to allow the driver to be
laying down behind the bike`s rear wheel while pedaling it
. the steering is done by a wheel that has cables attached to the handlebars .

5.11.3: the generator option

7.4.25:
. not having a generator reduces your design options dramatically
. without a gas-powered electrical generator, or a pedgen and batt' system,
all the holes in metal must be made with a hacksaw,
or beams must come pre-slotted
. a hand drill could work on abs or wood
. another way is running power tools with a flywheel, and that might be had by car parts supplier .
7.5.11:
. abs pipe too provides more freedom from drilling holes .

7.5.11: neckband for cart:

. to make it easier to get a cart on the bus,
the cart should have a neckband that helps you lift the box while boarding the bus .
. getting something a foot off the ground in front of you,
is much easier that getting a pack 3ft up behind you .

5.11.3: seed.kit#lite

. consider a much lighter kit for dropping down into europe;
and see what is available in their hardware stores
. the americans are much more big-car centric and not bike-friendly,
and there could be a lot of hostility to something that was
as wide as a car and slow as a bike
. whereas, europeans already have such things on the road
. on the other hand, you could also check for bike-friendly cities
5.11.16: however,
  "(bike-friendly) should not mean bike paths, as these are often inaccessable to trailers .

5.12.07:
. one way to easily convert the cot into a tent
is to use the broken walmart cot as a frame on which to drape waterproofing
. remove the springs and torn bedding;
cut off the middle leg bar
. now the frame can be considered ready for use in a kit;
although actual use may perm'ly attach a tarp in some way,
it's ready for reuse, whatever the design .

7.4.24:
. actually, the pedal cars they have on highways
are designed to keep up with traffic
. since thinking of europe,
they money I would have spent there is now worth half as much
. amsterdam`s free dope is likely out of my price range regardless of the exchange rates
. when you're truly schiz'ic, everyone is equally unlike you .

6.11.30: use pieces that are easy to get

. the first mobi design has tried to reuse available parts,
but if the current design is destroyed,
the replacement`s parts should be available off the shelf or by mail-order
. this will make the design both easier on me,
and more useful to any others interested in living off-grid
. it'll increase reliability if the parts are used as intended
and it'll ease manufacture on the road if the parts don't have to be modified much

6.11.30: construction tent

. in an emergency, build a shield with rope and tarp;
build a mini-trailer kit that was carted from the store with a manual trailer-pull
. the problem with using things exactly as intended
is that this deal does nothing for helping you build a velocar
7.1.12: repair station
. during repairs, need use of construction plastic to cover the entire mobi

walkable cabin

00.5.20: project"mobile` cot.tent.backpack

00.5.21:
. a bike trailer would be unpacked to access
waterworks and a cot.tent (a cot that has a built-in tent)
the trailer would be left by the roadside, while the cot.tent could be easily taken to shady spots .
(the tent`s bottom edges are wrapped around wood strips that get screwed into the cot frame )
00.5.28:
. the easiest way to be mobile is nixing the trailer,
by having the cot.tent double as backpack`frame .

00.5.28: backpacked portacot

. the easiest way to be mobile is use the folding cot as
both the frame for the backpack
and the foundation for a set-anywhere tent

. the back pack can perm'ly use the cot as a frame
since it folds toward leg,
sew the pack on top of the cot near your feet,
and sleep with your legs raised or leave leg space on the sides to sleep on your side with knee bent,
this is a cot you could replace
so design a way to replace the cot with[out] ripping stitches

3.4.1: 4ft table as cot

. while one version of backpacking would be a lockbox that provides partial shelter while seated,
. the lite version centered around using a cot n plastic tarp instead a tent
. the problem has been to find a cot that was durable
(either it had no springs, and the frame got stressed;
or, it had springs, but they were attached by drilling holes into the soft aluminum frame )
. shopco has a 4 foot table that might hold my weight securely if the legs were sawed off to reduce tipping

03.4.1:  lockbox is both backpack and cot,

7.3.18: cot.tent` frame

 . I figured just slinging a waterproof tarp over a cot might be enough for starters;
but, a cot.tent does need some sort of frame even if the shell is waterproof ;
because,
 the most cost-efficienty and mobil waterproofing is polypropylene,
and materials like that create static when rubbed by skin,
which feels annoying and could increase the risk of computer accidents .
7.3.23:
. the recycled walmart cot frame had it`s middle leg cut for reuse in the cot.tent
. in addition to that,
it needs the front leg extended atleast a foot,
and it needs to be stacked on top of the other cot`s frame
. the cot should be foldable without being disasm'd,
and one way to achieve that is to use the same bolted eye.bolt ass'y
but rearrange it like so:
drill holes to let the eye.bolts be epoxied into the ends of cot beams,
and then the bolt joint can be parallel with the folding line
. may also need some tubing bands epoxied around the cot`beam`ends
to ensure that the bolts don't split the beams .

00.12.7: backpack.able toilet

7.5.11: summary:
. the idea backpacking toilet would be useful even when bed ridden;
the cot could be converted into a recliner with a built-in bad pan
. I got this idea from the way cots do fold in half,
and in the middle where the sleeper`s butt is, there is a dip in the contour
. I imagined you could cut a hole in the middle for a bed pan
and it still wouldn't feel to different than usual .
. I still don't have all the details,
and I would now go with a less complex system:
. a recliner would have 3 seperate bands for the { leg, butt, back } regions
and the butt`band would be removable for a bed pan .
. the routine toilet system would separate from the cot;
just a toilet seat on a folding stool over a bagging system .

2000?:
. if the backpack has built-in wheels or a cart,
then the wheels should not be used while attempting to board a bus,
because loads requiring wheels can be deemed too large for transport by public bus .
. the backpack includes a portable toilet that uses disposable bags .

0.12.7:
. imagine with a box sized for sitting on
-- 1ft wide and the same depth as a cot is wide --
then to your left and right are the cot halves, on hinges;
and, behind you is a ceiling support that keeps a tent hanging up
. the toilet does not need to be
the lid is sealed with weather stripping .
7.5.10:
. the toilet bowl container can be of any material because it uses a double-bagging system:
under the routine trashbag is a thick, white, trash compactor bag,
which is meant to stay in place until it's found that the first, cheaper, trashbag leaked .
. this could be both hygenic and comfortable by routinely covering a gap in the cot with a zippered cloth,

0.12.7: sleeping.bag-coat

intro

. a sleeping bag can double as a winter coat or sun cloak;
it doesnt require down's compressability,
and can thus be a cheap material that is insulating even when wet
. when synthetic sleeping bag material is used as a coat
it should be covered with a fire resistent material (cotton, leather, etc)

. use a lower half bag in combination with the coat,
and a windbreaking bag over that is a waterproof tarp
with straps that secure to head and feet on cot or pad

. the coat is divided into a vest so that when the over coat is opened it can breeze the underarms
--the use of venting can then be a substitute for shedding (testing ?)
. design the overcoat so it fits on after the pack is on,
so it can be removed withou removing the pack
and so it can avoid trapping more heat under the pack
over that is the windbreaker that fits over the pack
the palm and other electronics gear must stay warm for batts to stay ready,
so the sleeping bag should double as a study pod with room and maybe a clear roof incase you can park near a light .

00.12.16: sleeping.bag conversion

. made from a washable sleeping bag that is warm even when wet
; has a system of zippers and chord lock'd strings to open giant heat-venting holes

. if it is a mummy bag, cut the boot; anyway, pin the shoulders to put the bottom of the bag at the ankles
; cut the back slit from bottom of bag to just below crotch (so not resting on zipper when sleeping)
; cut the front slit just above the crotch for easy access to front zipper of trousers
; the result is meant to wrap around each leg but not all the way up to the crotch; instead, the upper thighs and crotch are left exposed for easy access to the bathroom and avoid zippers chafing upper inner thighs
--it may be possible to use nylon fabric with some velcro : a 6in wide diamond of nylon is sewed to the inside of the legs and crotch so it tapers off before the knees,

. the lines of bag cutting can be the anchor of zippers that combine the leg tubes into one tube
. the zippers for forming the separate legs are the coat type that detach,
so
. detachable zipper makes it easy to use the bathroom without taking the suit off
. it lets you take the suit off as if it were a long shirt --without having to take muddy boots off.

00.12.23: kilt with button

. instead of having separate bags for legs that can be reunited to form one bag for sleeping ..
. assume a wide bag rather than a mummy style;
have a bag that extends only to knees and buttons at the bottom between the legs
--using one or 3 snaps from the trench coat or velcro;
then for sleeping,
zip bottom using the natural zipper
and accommodate the shortness of bag by resting on sides in a fetal position
. for going to the bathroom, lift like a kilt
-- after forming the top part into a long-necked hood,
the bag may only reach as far as the knees anyway
--may need some strap to hold the bag above your waist so it doesn't touch dirty toilet surfaces in back of you .

upper construction

. the sides are slit for arm holes at about the height that the sleeve of a t-shirt reaches;
this slit runs down to trouser pockets;
it has a zipper for closing arm holes when sleeping and for letting arms thru
or can be unzipped completely to get at pockets and remove heat
. the side slits can be held open by strings with chord locks that run across belly;
to avoid having the zipper chafe the arm,
the zipper is kept low but heat is kept in
by having sleeves added that get pulled into the bag to close the zippers completely;
the sleeve is sewn at top but not arm pit
so it's easy to lose some heat simply by lifting arms
. not meant to be waterproof; worn under a ponch or trench coat .

01.2.3: tent`padding

. closed cell (polyethelene) foam ensolite, needed to prevent ice formation on tent,
. at every site collect sticks and have a pair of 1.5x4 plywoods to throw on the sticks for a fetal position pad that folds compact

01.2.11: bear in the woods

the coat is long eno for a strap between the legs so the coat hugs the legs and acts as the upper part of the trousers;
meanwhile, the trousers have the seat and crotch removed
this allows cooling control and the ability to stool without removing trousers,
you wear regular pants underneath and pull them down
while keeping the trousers on by unvelcrowing slits that go down the insides of the thighs to the knees
another option is to have underwear that comes in 2 parts (legs, hammock)
01.2.24: polarguard 3d
. the most durable synthetic is polarguard 3d; consider rating and shape to get .

01.3.1: profiles layering

. keep in mind that the coat can come in layers ( one layer is put on before pack, one after );
and for midnight bathroom, sweat pants are all that is needed;
because, the duration is so short that your only concern is frosting the skin
rather than losing body heat .

2001:  wagon + backpack

porta.transport/ car
. ideas --dont spend too much time on mobility, priority is portable (eg combo wagon + backpack):
[7.5.16: apparently just for the long hours waiting for that damn bus!:
"(  5 min before bus comes, the box still serves as wind breaker standing up . ) ]
#1:
. up`side-down lidded box, Wheels on lid
. box lifts up to expose swing -out rests for back and feet,
#2:
. base from aluminum cot
#3:
 . 2 panels tall as trunk+6inch for porta-stool; eg a cboard box w plastic (as from box`top),
kept open by a frame
. has built-in hammock (use the metal frame of the mntn gear's porta seat)  for use as seat .

1.12.21: mobi# chair.box

02.6.15: slump box

1.9.28:
. have a sit and lay on your lap to get sleep in tight spaces .

. a box that is big eno' only for sitting in
would still let you sleep by letting you  slump over and lay on your own lap

. the floor is a piece of unbreakable plastic (home depot carbonate)
that can support a chair in any terrain, and can be easily cleaned off with a squeegee
. all the sides are soft fabric except the front which is rigid in order to
both keep the other walls from drooping on you,
and to support a door that is sealed without having to be unzipped;
it also provides a frame on which to build a screened vent that keeps rain out but lets air in
. the soft fabric walls are a composite of taffeta for strength,
and clear plastic for letting in light and keeping out wind and rain;
alt.ly,
reuse old raincoat material
. the floor and front panels are hinged, so it folds flat;
and since it is no wider than you, it's easy to backpack it on the bus
. if it were double-hinged, then it could contain the folding chair
. the chair is a folding porta-potty (seen at some sporting goods store:
a std toilet seat with x-shaped folding legs, and some way of securing a plastic bag) .

1.12.21: upright n lay configuration

. for travel and sleep,  the box tilts long-side down;
for sitting (hyg, shr, study), the box tilts up
1.12.30:
. folding bike for getting from campsite to bus/work
. box on wheels with long handle suitable for attaching to bike
.  the box is something to put the bike in so you can lock it up from vandalism;
and, when weather is bad then put bike in box and walk .

2.9.5: prefabricated parts allow large size

. a large size whose prefabricated parts will fit through doors and an elevator
. a certain size is also needed to contain the tools and the generator that will build it
. 4x6 fits a bed and an aisle;
the foot of the bed lifts up for a toilet .

2.9.15: vandal-proof box is locked to pole

02.7.25:
.one idea was that the unit should be small eno. to fit inside an elevator;
a counter idea is that a certain size lends legitamicy and prevents an urge to push it over or run over it
 (but recall aaron woke to find his parked car totalled)

 . need a backpack because parking hpv on street is insecure;
but some places don.t allow packs?
. use a vandal-proof box that can be locked to pole outside;
it has an accordian top that expands the back pack into sitting enclosure

. the top has 3 pieces that unfolds
first to form the backrest,
and then again to form a ceiling:
__
\      <-- head is here (facing ->)
/_
|_ | --like so

2.11.8: facade

. a large house is difficult to pre-build and get out the door,
and cannot be packed into the woods
. a small house may invite vandal push-overs
. a compromise is to have a secure nucleus within a
larger facade that breaks down into panels;
during backpacks, the panels would fit inside the nucleus

5.10.1: emergency box

. the chair.box it would be just big enough to surround a man in a chair;
and, then sleep could be done by resting it on it`s side to facilitate fetal-position sleeping
. it must be wide enough to allow the sleeper to switch sides, else risking kidney stones .
7.4.24:
. this design doesn't allow living space and storage space at the same time,
so it not useful for busy camping sites where you might want both at the same time
(as in my amsterdam 2005 vision) .
. it's for an emergency situation,
like when there are no wheels for getting out of the
thick city (where passing youths routinely murder the homeless);
. being the size of a backpack,
a chair.box can also be useflul when needing something that is small enough to carry on the bus
while also armored eno' to chain to a post next to the library or market unattended .

3.1.15: metal grill over polycarb

. home depot has a flimsy polycarbonate can serve as an inner wall
while metal sheeting can be used as an outer wall
and can let light in by spraying it with nail holes to form a grill
3.2.10:
. the unit is so thin it can be wheeled out a door,
it is upright for study, and put on it's side for sleep
. the polycarb glass on top must have a metal&wood cover to avoid burns .

walkable dog.guard

7.3.23: intro

. the walking dog.guard is a box held overhead by a backpack harness (with hipbelt)
. the box is also good weather protection
and makes computer-walking easy in any weather .

impl

. it's also secured to the handle of a tilted dolly
so as the winds come,
the dolly`s weight keeps the box from drifting into your legs
. when the dolly is untilted (resting straight up)
then box is raised and the user can either crawl out or use a half-door
. the primary structure is a sheet of wood attached by a pair of hinges to the dolly`handle
. the tilt is controled by the length of a horiz'l rod  below the hinge
which is bolted to the box,
but quick-connected to the dolly
. when getting to a storage or resting place,
the dolly should be released from box
to make it easier getting through elevators and angled hallways
. for hinge.ing the dolly to box
in a way that has a quick-release mechanism,
the easiest way is to make the hinge from pipe segments and a removable rod
. one pipe segment is strapped onto the dolly`handle,
and then 2 pipe segments are u-bolted onto the box` plywood back wall
-- exactly the way stock hinges are made .
. the bottom of the box should have plastic snowsled skids,
so that when dogs come, you can keep moving
even while pressing the box to the ground .

problem# rabid rodents

. the walkable dog.guard would not protect you from rabid rodents .

tips & tech

2005.11.03: metal braze

. I've built quite a few structures with wood,
and I'm looking cutting and glue.ing metal
with aq.gear/lowe's` metal brazing kits (bottled fuel and oxygen systems)
7.5.8
. brazing and welding is tricky for automotive because the purity of the weld is difficult to control
. if it is needed, then it should be reserved for glue applied to parts that already stay together by a lock fit,
eg tab&slot, and where the glued area is not prone to bending stress
. rtfm for further concerns .

6.10.26: gloves warmed

. putting lights in a glove would be a good design,
because any light that's hidden turns to heat,
and if it's dark, you want the light too .

. electric blanket might be reused for electric gloves
in too-cold bldg's that make typist`s fingers feel locked up
. the would be mittens that don't cover beyond first bend in fingers
but they go half way up the forearm .

6.11.26: mobi`sidewinder -- integrated mover`s dolly

. use little wheels on edge of trailer for side-winding into doors and sidewalks .
6.12.13:
. better to have a general-purpose device like a skateboard,
or a flip-down stand that places a skateboard under the dolly,
which is perfect for heavy lifting applications
but only for barrel-shaped things picked up from the rear,
. with sideways wheels, you could get through a door carry a stack of plywood,
by verting them, picking up from the side, and dollying sideways .

7.2.21:  sideways dolly

. another way to have a sideways dolly that reuses a normal dolly
is to bolt a beam onto the dolly`s lift plate,
and then add a coaster wheel to the underside of that beam
. to be a plywood hold, you'd also need some side supports
(that's a modular problem if your beam is a slotted angle iron)
. a general purpose attachment would have a twin pair of beams [22: or single wooden shelf],
and coaster wheels,
so that some shelving could be attached
. then the 4 wheels are loaded with boxes and strapped to the dolly`s vert
. you pull it by the dolly handle, and during a bump the small hard wheels are lifted,
and the dolly`s large wheels are given the entire job .
[23: need a long strap for putting most of the weight onto the handle rather than the lift.plate ] .

porta.gear/ cook/ all-in-one utensil

2000?:
. the perfect all-in-one device is a spoon whose handle is hook that can serve as a fork,
and a sharp side that can serve as a knife;
probably easiest to start w a spoon and then put a grinder and clamp to it.
another problem is the need for a spatula;
com use a separate handle whose socket can collect debris;
it should be one piece that is easy to clean w no disasm or poking.
use a wooden ruler and cglue layers of leather in the desired shape or start w commercial spatula,
then cover the entire assembly in silicon
... toxicity and heat-stability are some concerns .

1.2.3:   glycerine is an antifogger

. try glycerine -- it holds water evenly (might be the perfect solution) .

3.6.21: styrofoam sleeping bag

. instead of a down sleeping bag, make a matrix of pockets that hold recycled  foam
--use a zipper to close it but have a velcro quick-release in case of fire since styro should burn sticky n furious
