Lily walked into the room stopping before the large bronze mirror. ‘maybe their all right, maybe i’m not worth being here’
‘what are you talking about?’ the voice of an old woman named leza asked. She walked till she faced the back of lily, looking at her reflection while stroking her hair.
Lily answered her aunt’s question ‘all the girls in the village say i’m just an ugly basterd that doesn’t deserve to be alive and that i should burn just like my mother did’.
Leza looked at her niece worried. ‘do you remember you mother? Ofcourse you don’t, you were just so small. Do you know why they burned your mother?’ Lily shook her head as hjer aunt continued ‘they accused her of being a witch, as they have done for many times. But they accused her because she was so happy. It is true that your mother and father never married but they just thought it wasn’t worth it. They loved each other anyway. So your not a bastard, not to me anyway. She had just gotten you and just couldn’t stop singing, she was that happy. She loved you so much.’ Lily looked at her aunt in the mirror. ‘that’s why they killed her? Because she was so happy, no wonder she screamed so much during her excicution, she was innocent.’ Leza looked shocked. ‘is that what you believe? Well lett me tell you something. I was there when it happened. I was carrying you on my arm. Now let me tell you the way i saw it.
She has put her hair and looked as beautifull as she could. Her head held high not showing any fear. It was as if she was about to do one of the greatest things ever. She walked proud not caring about the whisperes. She looked strait forward towards her end. She showed amazing courage, she smiled at you, you know, as she walked up ther stairs. As they were tying up her hands to the pole and started the fire she looked towards the sky. She did not scream once. Not even when the fire got to her clothes and flesh. She looked at you one last time and whispered goodbye before looking towards the clouds, tot go to them. That was the ending of a great one. She was proud and courages till the end. If only we all had an ending like hers.’
Lily looked in the mirror while her aunt was stroking her hair. A tear run down her face as both women were silent thinking of what has just been said.
