Mothman Prophecies
While I wouldn't call John Keel a genius he does conduct some pretty thorough research. Unfortunately he commits a fundamental flaw, he slips into paranoia. Did he enter the twilight zone? You can't be both an investigator and a subject, you gotta choose one or the other.
Point Pleasant has got to be the neatest little town. UFO fanatics flock to Roswell but there's nothing there. Anyway, the main road is Rt 62 and pretty much everything lies along the road. The old bridge is long gone but there is a monument to it. You can see Ohio from across the river. Unlike the Potomac this river is pleasant to look at it. The graveyard is further up. Then the old TNT plant is even further up (outside of Pt. Pleasant). They have a trail which goes through it via the Farmer's Museum but they won't let you walk it unescorted. Apparantly there are trap pot holes and unknown entrances where someone could fall, get injured, and sue. It's one big concrete maze. Not that much farther out is the Wildlife Preserve which is huge and you could walk that for days. There's a real live nuclear plant nearby as well as a small military base with two army tanks on display.
So who was this mothman? Moth is the key word. Based on the descriptions it would best be described as a dark grey, 8 - 10' tall version of Cousin Itt from the Adam's Family with massive red eyes and a 15' or longer wingspan and no arms. Like a moth it can fold it's wings and it is covered by some type of hairy, fury substance. It has been confused with a half human, half demon type entity but it's figure is far from human. I don't even think it can be classified as humanoid. So throw out all those associations with flying people in Texas, NY, and Vietnam. At around the same time (mid 60s) a group of people saw the same or a very similar entity in a forest in England. Before they saw it they had seen a UFO of sorts. Now in every sighting this alien appeared to want to approach and possible communicate with people. However, everyone runs off and I can't blame them. Well there was a group of children who described it as an angel which I find interesting. But, anyway, maybe somebody didn't run away? That we'll never know.
