Welcome

to the Arcadia Presbyterian Church (APC) Counseling Center web site. Let all who are weary find rest here.

Our Mission Statement

The Mission of the APC Counseling Center is two fold:

1) to serve as a Christian ministry through continuing the care and compassion of Christ by counseling those who are hurting in the community and,

2) to train and equip lay people with skills and personal growth opportunities thus enabling improved communication, care and compassion with their clients as well as with others they encounter in their day-to-day lives.

Our History

In 1971, the Arcadia Presbyterian Church Counseling Center was begun to provide a supportive Christian environment for people to discuss their problems, concerns and feelings. It was initiated by Arcadia Presbyterian Church to meet the needs of its members and the community.

Who Are the Lay Counselors?

The volunteer counselors are Christian men and women who have been selected and interviewed by the Counseling Center Board, the Director and the Consulting Psychiatrist. They have participated for a minimum of one year in a formal training program conducted by the Consulting Psychiatrist and the Director. After training, the counselors receive ongoing weekly training and supervision.

How Does Someone Receive Counseling?

1) Call the counseling office at 626-445-1078 and leave a message requesting an appointment. The Director will return your call to set up an initial meeting.

2) Meet with the Director. The purpose of this meeting is to answer any questions you may have regarding counseling and to enable the Director to become familiar with your concerns so that the appropriate counselor can be assigned.

3) Your assigned counselor will call you to schedule the first counseling session.

How Much Does Counseling Cost?

There is a $20 recommended donation per session to support this ministry. This amount can be adjusted per conversations with the Director.

Who Can Receive Counseling?

Anyone who is 18 years of age or older and is not currently abusing alcohol or drugs.

Individuals will be seen by a Lay Counselor.

Couples, families and those under 18 will be seen by the Director, a Pastoral Counseling Intern or a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Their fee will be determined by a sliding scale and may be higher than stated above.
