There are quite a number of other trees, like Dillenia reticulate, which can colonise disturbed areas and also exist in the primary forest areas. Its leaf, during the sapling stage, has a large, long blade and a long stalk.
In the jungle fringes we often see the bush or small tree called the Dilenia Suffruticosa. This has a large, showy, cream-yellow river. The leaf is large, almost without a stalk, roundly elliptic in shape, and the margin has broadly spaced teeth. Hawkers often use these leaves for wrapping cooked food.
The secondary jungles are often dominated by the Tiup Tiup (Adinandra dumosa) of the Tea family with somewhat fleshy elliptic leaves and cream-white flowers, characterized by a long protruding style.
