Animals

Here are some animals that you can find at Bukit Timah Nature Reserve.

Looking right up into the top of the canopy is the place to find the Black-naped Oriole. Its favorite habit is to sit on an exposed perch at the top of a dead tree where it emits a whole variety of grunts, groans and burbles which sound strange coming from a bird.

Forest species of grasshopper are more dull-coloured than the brighter ones hopping about on the sunny summit. Such example is the forest grasshopper (Belalang).

The Giant Forest Ant (Semut Temenggong) is black in colour, has a deep brown abdomen, and has very long legs but although he looks scary, he is not at all aggressive or dangerous, so don’t hurt him. He nests in the soil at trees bases or within fallen and decaying tree-trunks.
