We, the Brock Women’s Fastball team have a goal for the 2006 season. We are striving to be included as a recognized sport here at Brock University (being recognized as varsity will be our next step down the road). As of now, we are currently not recognized nor supported by Brock Athletics, and we are not acknowledged as “Badgers”.
We are a part of the Ontario Intercollegiate Women’s Fastpitch Association (OIWFA) and our season begins at the start of September and continues until the end of October. We compete against other Universities such as Queen’s, Ottawa, University of Western, University of Toronto, McMaster, Laurier, Waterloo, Guelph, Windsor, York, and Carleton. Many of these Universities are considered by their governing school body as a varsity funded sport.
Along with this recognition includes the pride of wearing the Badger name along with the rest of our fellow competitive sports here at Brock. In addition, we will get to show our school what a great team they have representing them.
The OIWFA has been in operation for four years now, allowing women to play Fastpitch at the University level and providing opportunities to keep the sport alive. Brock University won the very first championship in 2002. We have a very strong team of fourteen returning players who are dedicated and motivated to represent their school with the utmost dignity and class.
We realize it is a very prestigious undertaking to become a recognized varsity sport at Brock University. We have scheduled a meeting with Mr. Lorne Adams the Athletic Director here at Brock to speak with him about our requests, as well as begun to circulate petitions in favour of our motion. Likewise, we are looking for individuals in superior academic positions here at the school who agree with our motion and wish to help support us in any way possible such as writing a letter to Mr. Adams or the Board of Athletics or even signing our petitions and guestbook.
