Todd (Last Name) 12/6/98 S.S. 5-C The person I interviewed was Anthony (Last Name), he is my grandfather. He was born in Manhattan on May 13, 1938. He is of the Italian decent. His grandparents came to America in the early 1900's from Southern Italy. They were poor farmers and they came to America for the land of oppertunity. My grandfather was raised in the Bronx. He had an older brother, older brother, my uncle Lucus, his older sister, my aunt Rosanna, and his younger sister, my aunt Kathy. He was third born of four children. He graduated at Theodore Roosevelt High School. It was very different from our schools today. They were taught classical music every day and used ink wells for writing. Their schools had swimming pools too. Things at home were very different too. Microwaves were not invented yet. They didn't even have a refrigerator. They had ice boxes. They bought a block of ice and put it at the bottom of the ice box to make the food cool. After school the kids hung out on the corner. They didn't have the toys that we have today. They made scooters out of 2 x 4's and cardboard boxes. They played marbles and kick the can. My grandfather met my grandmother at the corner candy store when he was 16 years old. He started writing poetry, he is a really good poet. in 1957 my grandfather joined the service. His country is very important to him. He wanted to be ready to help his country if they needed him. His uncle Don and his uncle John noth fought in the second world war. In the service he was in the arillery. He deove a tank. The tank carried a large cannon. He was also in the military polive in Germany. He had to keep close watch on the American service men. Previous Page Next
