Robot Wars Episode Summaries

Series 6 Final

So, here I am, writing my first Robot Wars episode summary, hopefully I’ll be able to describe the fights well and maybe bring a little knowledge where it’s needed.

Pre-fight thoughts:

?         I must warn you now, I’m very biased. Razer is by far my favorite robot and my least favorite robots are any wedge or box with no weapons... *cough*Tornado*cough*

?         I also like Firestorm as it is the closest thing to Cassius we have left. i.e. a front hinged flipper.

?         Quick kudos to the new robot Dantomkia who went out to Razer in the semi-final, it’s amazing for a totally new bot to come this far, and unfortunate that it kept getting caught in the arena wall. If it weren’t for that, it might have won. (not likely against Razer)

Razer

Tornado

Firestorm

Cassius

TerrorHertz

Growler

OK, here we go. The episode starts as usual with Jonathan Pearce giving an introduction over some spoilers from the episode, and, as usual, I try to ignore them as much as possible. Then it moves into a shot of Craig Charles giving another introduction to the episode. Then we go back to JP who’s giving us an introduction to the house robots. (go Growler!!) Then he goes into a recap of how all the bots in the final got there, along with clips. (Razer crushing about 20 opponents, Firestorm taking out the Refbot and Shunt, Tornado ramming into some robots *yawn* and Terrorhertz axing it‘s way to the final. PS. kudos to Terrorhertz for it‘s merciless destruction of Bigger Brother in the semis.)

Back to Craig, then to Phillipa in the pits, she wanders round introducing the four finalists. I wish they’d just get on with it... Back to Craig AGAIN... and finally on to the first fight. (Jeezus)

Terrorhertz vs. Razer:

Shunt and Killalot are in there for the house robots.

Activate is called. both bots come screaming out of their corners and meet in the middle, Terrorhertz fires it’s axe and misses, Razer positions itself to the side of Terrorhertz and begins crushing. Both bots run into the wall as Razer crushes right into the centre of Terrorhertz, Terrorhertz all the while firing it’s axe and missing. Razer retracts it’s claw and lifts Terrorhertz clean off the ground, moments later it slips off, but Razer is there and pushes Terrorhertz into Shunt who axes Terrorhertz twice before it gets away. Razer comes in instantly and begins to crush again while Terrorhertz swings it’s axe back and forth helplessly. Razer drags Terrorhertz into the pit release button (no more messing about) and with Terrorhertz swinging it’s axe in protest Razer calmly drops it in the pit.

Winner: Razer

Craig interviews the Terrorhertz boys who admit that they pale in comparison to Razer.

He then interviews the Razer team who inform him that out of 21 fights they have only ever lost once, to Pussycat.

OK next fight,

Firestorm vs. Tornado:

Shunt and Psycho for the house robots.

Tornado have glued a little wedge to the front of their box on wheels in order to give themselves a fighting chance against Firestorm. This is, however, allowed in the rules so I can’t complain too much. (cheating S.O.B.s)

Activate is called. Both bots come out of their corners and collide in the middle of the floor, Firestorm bounces off Tornado and positions itself for another run. But Tornado is there with the wedge and manages to lift Firestorm who gets away quickly. Both bots position themselves for a few seconds before Tornado comes into the side of Firestorm and pushes it across the floor and into Mr. Psycho. Firestorm gets away and turns to face Tornado. Firestorm rams Tornado’s wedge and pushes it into the wall before Tornado pushes back and heaves Firestorm across the floor. The bots separate and Firestorm finally manages to get underneath Tornado for a few seconds but Tornado quickly rolls off. More positioning, Firestorm chases Tornado into the pit release button. More chasing. Tornado gets underneath Firestorm and pushes it across the floor and into Shunt who promptly sticks it’s axe in Firestorm, Firestorm gets away and Shunt axes Tornado instead, putting a large hole in the top. Shunt then axes Firestorm again before Tornado gets underneath Firestorm AGAIN and pushes it across the whole arena, Firestorm is shaken free and manages to get it’s flipper under Tornado and lift it up onto two wheels. Tornado gets away and shunt comes in and axes Firestorm, no damage done. Firestorm gets away and flips Tornado again, all the way over this time. Tornado drives all the way over Firestorm before attacking again and getting flipped again. Tornado drives underneath Firestorm and pushes it across the floor and into the wall. A few more bashes between the bots before Tornado gets under Firestorm and manages to push it into the pit.

Winner: Tornado.

Craig interviews the teams who complain that there was too much oil on the arena floor. The Tornado team say that they might have a surprise for Razer in the final. (Hmmm...)

Next is the play-off for third place.

Terrorhertz vs. Firestorm:

Dead metal and Shunt in there for the house robots.

Activate is called: The bots connect in the middle of the floor before spinning and rotating to get a good position. Firestorm comes in and Terrorhertz axes Firestorm who speeds off into Shunt and lifts it up. Terrorhertz then comes in and both Shunt and Terrorhertz begin axing Firestorm who loses some armor. Terrorhertz continues to axe Firestorm but suddenly it stops moving, is it immobile? Terrorhertz fires its axe, but it can’t move. The Refbot counts Terrorhertz out. Shunt pushes Terrorhertz onto the arena flipper. And then into the pit.

Winner: Firestorm.

Craig interviews the teams.

finally, on to the... final.

Phillipa shows us the little “surprise” that Tornado has for Razer. It is in fact an anti-Razer cage that prevents Razer from reaching Tornado with it’s claw and a big spinning blade on the front. Razer has added a little spike on the end of it’s claw to hook onto this cage and lift Tornado into the air.

Tornado vs. Razer:

Shunt + Dead Metal.

Activate is called. Tornado and Razer connect in the middle of the floor. No damage. Tornado attacks with it’s spinning blade knocking Razer sideways. Razer then grabs the cage with it’s claw and gets dragged around. Razer lets go. More positioning. Razer gets hit by the spinning blade, it bends Razer’s claw extension. More positioning, Tornado’s blade hits Razer and immediately breaks, it cannot move. Razer and Tornado push and pull each other around the arena until Razer gets caught under the side wall and Tornado begins to ram it over and over. Razer gets free eventually, Tornado continues to ram Razer and pushes it into Dead Metal who grinds away at Razer. More pushing. Tornado pushes Razer into Shunt  who axes Razer. After some more pushing Razer manages to hook Tornado and lift it into the air. Razer takes Tornado over to the pit but Tornado’s cage is too large to fit in the pit. Cease is called and it goes to a judges decision. the judges give it to Tornado.

Winner: Tornado

Well, there you have it, Tornado wins Robot Wars series 6 but this victory left me with a distinctly bitter taste in my mouth. The last minute addition of an anti-Razer cage makes me think that even though it was within the rules it wasn’t very sportsman-like.

Anyway, that’s what I thought about it. Hope you enjoyed reading the summary.
