House Of The Dead 2 Dreamcast Review

Yesterday, I picked up a Dreamcast light gun and House of the Dead 2 for a tenner. (RRP £70) So I thought I'd review it.

Light Gun

The light gun I got is the 'Interact StarBlaster' It really gives the game an 'arcade' feel. It is possible to play with the controller but it is slow and no where near as fun. The only complaint I have is that, because there are so many zombies coming at you all the time, your trigger finger becomes very tired, very fast.

My DC light gun.

Sound:

Gun shots, zombie sounds and music are all good in HOTD2 and add to the creepy feel of the game overall, but nothing to really get excited about. The only problem is the terrible voice acting, remember that this game was designed for the arcade where you can't hear a thing. The poor voice acting does, however, add to the B-Movie feel that the game has.

Playability:

Ahhh... Light gun games... In my opinion, some of the most fun-to-play games in existence. (Remember Point Blank for the PSOne) If your using the controller however, the playability comes right down. The slow movement will have you howling with anger when you get bitten in the head for the fifth time.

Longevity:

As a rule, arcade conversions are very short and can be easily completed when you're not forced to keep sticking pound coins in the machine, and this is no exception. Even though SEGA have tacked on some extra modes, it's still much to short.

Graphics:

HOTD2 is getting on in years, it's been around since 1999 and as a result the graphics aren't really up to today's standards.

6/10

Overall:

In my opinion, the fourth best light gun game ever made.    (1] Point Blank. 2] Time Crisis 3. 3] HOTD3.) My advice is, BUY IT! of if you have an XBOX, BUY HOTD3! Or if you have neither, GO TO THE ARCADE AND PLAY IT!
