Notes:
Discription:
The Dwarf Gourami is a very good community fish. It stays in the middle to top level of the tank. Males can sometimes be agressive towards each other. They will spread their fins and circle one another while curving thier bodies in an intimidating posture. If in a large tank, they will normally tire of this and go their seperate ways. However, if in a small tank (ex. 2 males in a 10 gallon), they may attempt to harm one another. If this is the case they should be seperated.
There are several color varieties of the Dwarf Gourami. There is the Powder Blue (striped), Neon Blue (striped), and the Red.
Requirments:
I reccomend at least 10 gallons for this fish. Although this fish is small, giving them space to roam is a must. Having lots of leafy hiding places will help your fish feel more secure in its home.
Diet:
Gouramies will eat both dry and live foods.
Sexing:
Males have very bright colors. Females are duller and more plump.
Breeding:
The Dwarf Gourami is a bubble nest builder. A planted tank with lots of cover is reccomended. Also, some floating plants will help the fish feel more secure and give him a place to build the nest. The male will guard the eggs in the nest until they've hatched. For breeding and peace in the aquarium, 2 or 3 females per male is suggested.
