The Beginner's Guide To Fish Keeping.

Researching Your Fish
By: Maverick

Research is the most important thing you will do when setting up your tank. I can't tell you everything you need to know about your fish, but I CAN tell you what to look for. When choosing your fish there are certian things you need to know about it. I'll list a few of the most important things to look for. Just remember, this list isn't perfect, nor am I, so if you feel you need to know more about your fish, you probably do!

  • What kind of fish? You need a proper I.D. to get more information on it!
  • Is it Freshwater, Brackish, or Marine?
  • How big will it get?
  • What's the minimum amount of tank space this fish needs to feel comfortable?
  • Can you keep it with it's own kind?
  • Can you keep it with other fish? If yes, what kinds of other fish?
  • What are it's water requirments (PH, water hardness)?
  • What does it eat?
  • How old is it and how long will it live?
