Fighting Corruption

Corruption is a widespread phenomenon practised by dishonest people and this has terrible effects on people's rights and dignity.

Write an article to your school magazine about the possible means to combat it and to eradicate it from our daily activities.

Corruption, which is misconduct for private gain, is a very destructive social phenomenon that has to be combated so as to protect the basics of human rights especially in equal opportunities. Many NGOs, such as Transparency International, is fighting corruption worldwide, but we also can fight this immoral act in various ways.

First, we have to sensitise people about the risks they run with the law if they are involved in bribery. For this purpose, we should use all means like TV, Radio, conferences, lectures, seminars, meetings, rallies and so on. People should know that the corrupt person faces imprisonment and that corruption can cause them to lose their jobs and their dignity.

Second, we should raise awareness in the younger generations to change this culture for a better future for them and for their families. If they give up their egoism and start thinking about the common good, they will never accept the idea of giving or receiving improper or unlawful gifts, that’s to say, bribes.

Finally, we should encourage and make it easy for every individual to denounce corruption cases by allowing them easy access to authorities through a green phone number or via internet. It would be better if there are special centres where victims of corruption can share their experiences and look for solutions.

All in all, it is true that corruption is an epidemic phenomenon, but fighting it is a duty for every one of us. We all dream of social peace, equality, mutual trust, and altruism, don't we?!
