Aliens vs. Predator SNES

Items

Green Potion
Heals you 25%.

Rhynth Meat
Heals you 100%.

Energy Capsule
Increases your max health.

Alien Skull
Gives you 2000 points.

Spear
Gives you six spears to throw. The spears do a good amount of damage to Aliens, and can also strike multiple Aliens.

Disc
Gives you six discs to throw. The discs do less damage than the spears, and can only strike one Alien at a time, although if the Aliens are standing close together, you may hit them both.

Cloak
This makes you invisible for a few seconds. It really doesn't help much because the Aliens seem to know where you are anyways, and then YOU can't see where you are. :)

Enemies

Egg
Not really an enemy, but they do release facehuggers. If you can destroy the egg before it releases the Alien inside, you also kill the facehugger.

Facehugger
They come out of Alien eggs and run around on the ground and jump at you. They're really just annoying. One slide will kill it, or you can try to punch it as it flies towards your face (which I don't recommend doing).

Chestburster
These little guys usually just crawl across the screen and run into you, dealing you damage. The only way you can kill them is to slide into them, and one slide will kill it.

Jump Alien
These are the little crouched over Aliens. I think their hosts must have been Stretch Armstrong, because these little buggers can stretch their arms! They are best known for jumping towards you and stretching their claws way out to knock you down. They usually do this jump attack to hurt you, but I have also seen them claw at you if you are close, and even use their tail or jaws on you if you just stand there. They can also spit acid at you.

Bulldozer Alien
This type of Alien is larger than the Jump Alien, and as a result, is also stronger and harder to kill. However, Jump Aliens are much more of a nuisance. Anyway, the Bulldozer Alien harms you by running into you. Actually it's more of a walk, but it still knocks you down. They also claw and jump occasionally, but not as far as the Jump Aliens can. They also bite, but not often, and I haven't seen one use its tail, though I'm sure they can.

Dolphin Alien (Boss)
This Alien doesn't really look like a dolphin, but that was the host that was plastered to the wall before you fight him. To me it looks like it impregnated an alligator. He hides in the water then jumps out quickly, curls into a ball, and rams into you. It also claws you.

Gorilla Alien (Boss)
This is one cool Alien! There is no question as to what this Alien's host was.. especially since you see it the host right before you drop down to fight him! The Gorilla Alien, like the gorilla, is STRONG. It can withstand your punches and not even flinch, and there's no way to even knock it down. It just jumps back a ways, holding its arms over its head. This Alien swipes its claws at you and also bites you a lot.

Bird Alien (Boss)
This is one mean looking winged Alien that obviously spawned from a bird of some sorts. It flies around the screen and swoops down at you to ram you and claw at you with its talons.

Snake Alien (Boss)
Yet another very cool Alien, this one actually looks like a very big chestburster; its host must have been a snake, considering it has no legs. The Snake Alien is very fast and recovers quickly from your attacks. It can claw and bite you, and, like a snake, it can wrap its long tail around you and hold you in place to bite you repeatedly.

Alien Queen (Boss)
Of course, we had to see an Alien Queen! :) She has a large amount of health, and she is very fast and strong, being the last boss. The Queen bites, claws, and rams you repeatedly, and if she starts a combo attack, you usually won't be able to escape the attack until you get knocked backwards. You can knock her down by sliding into her, doing a flying kick, or completing a punch combo on her. She is unaffected by your special attack, and she can usually hit you before you can deliver it anyways.

In this game, you play The Predator. He doesn't really have a name, so he's just The Predator. You are equipped with your Wristblades, a plasma caster, and your own mad ninja kicking, punching, and sliding skills. However you can collect more powerful weapons that Aliens drop when you kill them (why an Alien would be carrying a spear or a cloak is beyond me), and you also have a devastating special attack. So here is a summary of your mad skills:

Punch
You can punch! One punch doesn't deal too much damage, but it will if you punch repeatedly in a combo attack. Also, if you tap forward quickly then punch you'll deliver a swift uppercut that knocks Aliens down. If you get close enough to an Alien, you can also grab a hold of them and punch them a few times, or fling them away.

Flying Kick
Press the punch button while midair and you can kick! It does more damage than punching or sliding, and also knocks Aliens down.

Slide
This is the coolest attack ever. You slide into the Aliens, knocking them down! Slide, slide, slippity slide!

Plasma Caster
You can charge up your plasma caster and fire light, medium, or heavy beams of plasma at Aliens, damaging them to varying degrees. This works well if they are leaping at you, or are some distance away.

Special Attack
If you hold down the button that fires your plasma caster long enough, you'll unleash this powerful special attack that strikes all Aliens on the screen and deals a lot of damage to them. Sometimes you can't use it however.

Walkthrough
The year: 2493.
The planet: Vega 4.
The city: New Shanghai.

Workers were digging a new subway tunnel when they uncovered dormant eggs of an extremely dangerous parasitic lifeform.

The colonists were helpless against the Alien horde.

They sent out a distress call to the Earth-based authorities.

The distress call was received and understood by a passing spacecraft.

The Predators were in search of big game. They had been thinking to hunt humans, but now they would be up against more challenging prey...

1-1. City Street.
In this level you will encounter Jump Aliens and Bulldozer Aliens, and only two chestbursters. The Aliens are fairly weak, as this level is really meant to familiarize you with the system of fighting.

The Aliens had been cleared from the streets.

But now their underground hive would have to be destroyed before the city would be free of them.

1-2. Sewer.
You start to encounter facehuggers in this level, as well as Jump Aliens that will spit acid at you. The acid spitting Jump Aliens are nothing more than a nuicance, really. At the end of the level you face the first boss, the Dolphin Alien. Its attacks are to leap from the water, curl up into a ball, and roll towards you only to jump underwater again, or to jump out of the water, claw you, then get back in the water.

There are two ways you can beat the Dolphin Alien. The first method is to just slide into him as soon as he jumps out, thus knocking him down, then he goes back underwater. Repeat this process until he dies. It takes a long time, but you are guaranteed to take little to no damage. The other method is quicker, but you might get hurt doing it. Charge up your plasma caster fully and wait for him to jump out of the water. As soon as he does, turn in his direction and shoot the plasma at him. Repeat this until he dies. Or, you can just keep using your special attack.

The Aliens may have been cleared from the city, but they had infested the forests as well.

The Predators continued to hunt down the Aliens.

2-1. Waterfall.
In this level you drop down multiple ledges until you reach the base. There are Aliens on each ledge, including facehuggers in eggs, Jump Aliens that spit acid, and Bulldozer Aliens that move faster than the previous ones. Once you reach the bottom you encounter the Gorilla Alien boss. He can be hard to beat.

The Gorilla Alien cannot be knocked down because it's so strong. It can only be pushed backwards, and that is somewhat hard to do. If you try to combo punch it, it will usually bite you. The best strategy I have found is to just keep attacking it. If you ever get a chance to use your plasma caster, use it! A flying kick will push him backwards, then try to use your caster to keep him at a distance while wearing him down.

The Aliens had made a hive at the base of the waterfall. A number of human victims could still be rescued...

...As if the Predators cared.

2-2. Forest Hive.
This level, being inside the Alien hive, has plenty of chestbursters. Some may even come out of the walls from hosts. You will also encounter Bulldozer Aliens with more health than others.

At the end of the level you encounter what I like to call the "chestburster boss". It is essentially a bunch of chestbursters dropping down on you. Your best strategy is to just stay at the bottom of the screen and keep sliding, but you will take damage. There are a lot of chestbursters that drop, so just keep it up!

All the Aliens in the city and in the countryside had been hunted down by the Predators.

But that still wasn't all the Aliens on the planet. The last nest of Aliens was at the spaceport.

3-1. Spaceport.
This level is fairly easy, as there are few Aliens. You'll find a few eggs with facehuggers also. At the end you encounter the Bird Alien boss. This is a fairly easy boss, considering the last two you fought. It flies around at the top of the screen and swoops down on you. When it does this, jump up and deal it a flying kick. This will knock it down, then it will repeat the swooping attack. If it does manage to knock you down, it will fly near you and you can do a punch combo on it.

The Predators had now hunted down every Alien on Vega 4, except the ones inside the spaceship itself.

It was determined that the Aliens had come to Vega 4 from the Orion Nebula long ago.

The Predators decided to follow the trail, flying the Alien-infested spaceship to the source of the Alien plague.

4-1. Spaceship.
In this level you will see the Aliens get noticably stronger and faster. They will be harder to kill from this point on.

The Aliens were firmly entrenched in the spaceship. The Predators had their work cut out for them.

4-2. Spaceship.
Yet again, this level possesses much stronger Aliens. They are also very fast in this level.

It was a long journey to the Orion Nebula.

Finally the Predators could smell victory at hand.

4-3. Spaceship.
This level is just like the other two spaceship levels, except there is a boss at the end. It is the Snake Alien.

He can be a little tricky to defeat, but you shouldn't have a problem. You are fast enough to combo punch him if you want, but it puts you at risk of getting held in place by his tail. You can slide into him to knock him down, but he is very fast, so he will get up quickly and most likely ram you. The best strategy I have found is to hit him with a flying kick, or shoot your plasma caster at him repeatedly if you're quick enough.

The Aliens had all been eliminated.

The Predators came at last to even richer hunting grounds, in the Orion Nebula.

This should be the grandest hunt of all...

5-1. Orion Nebula.
This level is no different from the spaceship levels, really. You will find the Aliens are the strongest in the Orion Nebula.

The surface was now clear of Aliens. The Predators entered the final Alien hive.

5-2. Orion Nebula Hive.
The level itself has a few Aliens, but you are really here to fight the very last boss: the Alien Queen. She is fast, strong, and has a lot of health! I have found no real strategy that helps in beating the Queen. You can combo punch her and knock her down, which may help. Don't bother using your plasma caster, as she can usually get up and run to the other side, dodging the plasma and clawing you in the process. The best strategy may be to just keep punching her, sliding if you need to push her back, and flying kicks work well also.

All races in the galaxy owed the Predators a debt which could never be repaid. The Predators didn't care for thanks, however.

It had been a glorious hunt. Perhaps more of this new and interesting prey would someday be found on another planet...
