One Month Until the Wedding

Lita paced around the room restlessly. She'd known when she'd first become friends with Hunter that he had a fair bit of emotional baggage to sort out. When they'd first gotten involved romantically, she'd vowed to help him work through it. While they could talk about Stephanie comfortably, it had always seemed as though they were discussing someone they had known a long time ago and never expected to see again. With a shock, Lita realised that was exactly it - neither of them had really expected to see Stephanie again.

"Damn girl, will you stop circling the room? I'm getting dizzy just looking at you!" exclaimed Jackie, looking at herself in the mirror. "How's this one?"

"No different than the last 5 dresses ya tried on." Debra sighed, flicking through a magazine. "What's the big deal? It's just a dress."

"I only own one dress!" exclaimed Jackie. "And that's my bridesmaids dress!"

"This is for the after reception party." Lita pointed out. "Chyna's not gonna be there to comment and I plan to be in leather pants and a comfortable top. Which means you don't have to get another dress, you can just wear something comfortable. No big deal."

Jackie hesitated, still looking at herself. Debra and Lita exchanged a look. "Spill it Jacqueline."

"You know how Chyna took photos of us trying on all those different dresses before settling on which ones we're gonna wear?" She waited till the other two nodded before continuing. "Well... Bradshaw saw em and said he thinks I look very sexy in a dress."

"Oh does he?" smirked Debra. "Well now that we at least have a vague idea of what you're looking for we can at least give better advice. Right Lita?"

"Uh-huh." She replied distractedly. "Okay, if you guys had to tell your men something about an ex that you knew would really upset them, but had to be said so that they were prepared for it, how would you tell them?"

"If it's about Stephanie, then the only way I would tell Hunter is from a distance." Debra replied. Jackie tried not to grin. "You mean yell it from the other side of an empty stadium or something?"

"Actually I meant via email from the other side of the country." The two women started to laugh. Lita looked at them in disgust. "I should've known better. Forget I even asked."

"God, it is about Stephanie isn't it?" Debra's eyes went wide. "What is it?"

"I can't tell you." She replied slowly. "I wish I could, because it's a burden I don't like having to keep to myself. But it's not my place to say anything."

"Oh come on, tell us!" begged Jackie. "I won't tell anyone!"

"You ran into her somewhere?" guessed Debra. "You know where she is?"

"Oh!" Jackie shouted from behind the changing room door. "She really was pregnant!"

"To Jericho!" added Debra with a chuckle, unable to resist. Lita shot an angry glare at her and turned around to leave. "Oh!"

Hunter stood there, arms crossed. "Having fun doll?"

"I was." She replied a little shortly. "Then I wasn't, so I decided to leave. We need to talk. Come with me."

Jackie and Debra watched with interest as Hunter didn't move and glared at Lita. She returned the glare and narrowed her eyes. After a few very long seconds, he looked away. She smirked and turned on her heel and stalked out. Hunter made a noise of irritation and stormed out after her. "Lita! Wait up!"

He caught up to her a pedestrian crossing and grabbed her arm. "What's going on?"

"I'll tell you when we get back to the fucking hotel." Lita wrenched her arm free as the light went green and marched across the road. Annoyed, Hunter stared after her, then ran across the road, ignoring the fact that it was no longer safe to cross.

They continued like this the whole way back to the hotel - Hunter demanding to know what was going on and Lita insisting she would tell him once they got back to the hotel. By the time they reached the hotel, she was ready to lock him out of their room and would have done so, if it wasn't for the fact that Hunter had his own key.

"So are you gonna tell me what the fuck is going on?" Hunter snapped as he slammed the door behind him. Lita winced at the tone of his voice. "If you don't stop shouting at me like I'm one of your family servants, then I'm not gonna tell you a fucking thing!"

"Come on Lita!" He kicked the base of the bed. "You know something! Why the hell were Jackie and Debra talking about my wife?"

"Estranged wife!" Lita shouted back. "The only reason you two are still married is because you have no idea where the fuck she is remember? And you know what? Maybe that's a good thing! Because that way, you don't have to do a damned thing and you still come across as the victim without having to lift a finger."

"What do you want me to do?" Hunter shouted back. "I've done every godamned thing I can think of to find her and no fucking dice! If this is a jealousy thing, then I suggest you get over it quickly. She's been gone for over a year. It's not like we're going to run into at the mall or at Chyna's wedding or something."

"That's what you think!" muttered Lita quietly. Unfortunately, it wasn't quietly enough and Hunter stared at her in shock. "What are you saying?"

She bit her lip as she realised what she'd done. "Hunter, come here. Let me explain."

"How did you find out?" He demanded, crossing his arms and leaning against the wall. "Where is she? How long have you known?"

The last question was shouted, in a voice so thick with fury that it made Lita flinch. "I don't know where she is. All I know is that Chyna has invited her to the wedding and she accepted. And before you ask, I don't know how she knows."

"Did you find out by accident or did she tell you?"

"Christ, what is this, the Spanish Inquisition?" She threw her hands in the air. "Forget it. I'm outta here." Lita headed for the door, but as she passed Hunter, he grabbed her wrist. She stared at it. "Let go of me. Now."

"Where the hell are you going? And if you think I'm letting you anywhere until you give me some fucking answers you better think again. Why the sudden jealousy fit huh?"

"I'm not your bitch Hunter, you cannot just order me around. But since you asked so fucking nicely - Chyna asked me to tell you that your wife would be at the wedding, because for some crazy reason, she thought I might be able to stop you from creating a scene. I don't know where she is. I don't know how Chyna knows. I only got told on the weekend. Before you ask, I don't know why Stephanie got an invite to the wedding. Can I go now?"

She didn't wait for an answer and took advantage of his surprise to get free. Hunter just stood in the middle of the room in shock and didn't move until the door slammed behind Lita.
