Part 13
The holding room had four cages in it, one in each corner. Only three of them were occupied though, and the three occupants stared silently at the empty cage, waiting for their fourth to be brought back.
After what seemed like an age, the door slowly opened. Mick Foley walked in, looking distinctly uncomfortable in his suit and tie. Shane McMahon grinned weakly. "Hey Mick."
"Are you guys okay?" Mick asked softly. "And by okay, I mean thinking clearly, able to move all body parts."
Shane, Chyna and Test nodded. Chyna's face was strained, more than the other two captives. "Mick, no bullshit. Who?"
Foley understood what she meant instantly and hesitated before answering. "You already know, I can see it in your face. Matt Hardy."
"Jesus fuckin Christ!" swore Shane. Test thought of something. "Mick, is it safe for you to be talking to us like this? I mean, we know they won't hesitate to go after Colette and the kids."
"There's no microphones in this room." Mick replied. "There's a camera, but only one and I have my back to it so they can't do any lip reading. I'm meant to be in here to tell you that Jeff has been most cooperative, and that you should just tell Richards whatever he wants to know, but the truth is, Jeff hasn't told them shit. You should be proud of your fearless leader, he's nothing if not loyal. Anything they know, Matt told them."
"Stephanie?" Shane wanted to know if Richards was aware of Stephanie and Jericho's relationship. Mick smiled tightly. "Congratulations Shane. You're going to be an uncle."
"Oh lord." Breathed Test. Chyna nodded. "I hope she's safe. And very well hidden. Any news on my boys?"
"Nothing on DX, sorry Chy." Mick said regretfully. "I wish I had more news. But Jeff will be back with you soon. He doesn't know about Matt. It's up to you guys to tell him or not."
The other three nodded. Mick sighed. "You're going to get out of here. The NCC won't rest until they get you out. All of you. I have to go now."
"Thanks Mick." Shane said quietly. "We really appreciate this."
"Appreciate what?" asked Regal, catching the end of Shane's statement as he came into the room. Chyna smiled beguilingly at him. "Being put into the same holding room together."
"Oh." Regal had a look on his face that clearly showed he did not care one little bit. "Foley, unlock the other cage please."
Barely masking his revulsion at being ordered around by the other man, Mick unlocked the fourth cage. Regal moved to the doorway. "Bring them in!"
"Them?' mouthed Test in confusion. Shane shrugged, then swore as the Big Show walked into the room, the bruised and batter body of Jeff over his right shoulder… and on his left shoulder, in noticeably better condition, but still unconscious, was Matt.
"What is he doing here?" snapped Chyna. Mick raised an eyebrow. "You have a problem being in the same room as the older brother of your fearless leader?"
The icy sarcasm in his voice was a stark contrast to the gentle concerned tone he'd used earlier and she was taken aback slightly. Test snorted. "When he's a traitor we do."
"Oh?" smirked Regal. "And what you make you think something like that?"
"It's obvious." Replied Shane, speaking with the experience of someone who'd been in this situation before. "You never leave the captives alone, yet he wasn't in the holding rooms with any of us. The rest of us are pretty well beaten up - I think my wrist is sprained and an ice pack would be helpful - yet Matt doesn't have a blemish on him. And he's not unconscious, he's faking it."
"You always were a shitty actor." Added Test. Charade over, Big Show lowered Matt to the floor and gestured to Mick. "Unlock the cage Foley."
Mick pulled the keys out of his pocket, barely masking his disgust. Chyna glared at Matt. "Why'd you do it? Not happy with Jeff getting all the attention and credit?"
He sauntered over to her cage. "I have my reasons." He looked over at the others, who weren't paying him any attention. "Chyna…"
"What?"
"I'm sorry."
For a moment Chyna thought she hadn't heard correctly, then when she realised he was serious, she started to laugh. "Go to hell Hardy. And get the fuck out of here before Jeff comes round and you break his fucking heart."
"Yes, leaving probably is a good idea." Big Show agreed. "If you don't get back soon, they'll get suspicious.Got your story figured out?"
"Yeah." Matt answered shortly, not meeting anyone's eyes. Mick looked at nothing in particular. "Like Chyna said, you'd better leave before Jeff regains conciousness."
The three concious captives glared at their captors as they left the room. The heavy door slammed after them, and Chyna let out a scream of anger. "JESUS!"
"Ugh.. what's going on?"
"Jeff!" They cried in unison.
"Did I hear Matt's voice?" He slowly pulled himself into a sitting position, leaning against the bars of the cage. "Where's my brother?"
"He's not here Jeff." answered Shane carefully, racking his brain for a way to tell Jeff what had happened. Their bruised leader frowned and put a hand to his head. "What the fuck happened? And where's Matt?"
"We've been set up. Again." replied Test. "You're meeting with Foley was a set up."
"Where's Matt?" repeated Jeff, seeming to ignore everything else. The other three exchanged looks and hesitated, not wanting to be the ones to tell him. "Where is my brother?"
Eventually Shane spoke. "Matt's working for Richards now Jeff."
"You're lying."
"Why would I lie about it?" The older man snapped back. "He's fucking turned on us. That's how they got us at Buchanon's Playground. Your brother has told Richards all about us and our habits and connections. And I swear to God, if my sister and especially my mother get hurt because of him, then I will not be held responsible for my action. "
Jeff had been muttering under his breath, but something in Shane's eyes and tone of voice seemed to shake his convictions. "Chy?"
"I'm sorry Jeff."
"It's a lie!"
"Why would we lie?" She asked gently. "I can understand this is hard for you, but Jeff..."
"What do you understand Chyna?" He shouted. "You can't possibly understand!"
"Maybe not." Chyna shrugged. "Maybe I have no idea what you're going through right now. But I do know this. We're gonna get out of here. And when we do, we'll make him pay."
