Here we see the gallery's first piece following a significant computer upgrade and deriving from a
different graphic software medium than its
predecessors. Adorned with relish and mustard,
Hot Dog is reminiscent of one of
America's favorite foodstuffs.
Digitally baked to completion five days after my own birthday, Birthday Cake
rises forth as a celebration of both life and chocolate. Six candles atop the cake mark a sixth
birthday which was rather pleasant and aesthetically memorable. A finely-textured chocolate
layer cake and a cold glass of milk capture the
essence of the occasion suitably.
Behold, an illustrated tribute to the intrigue of the mystical talking board that has astonished us for ages. With its origins dating back to the late 19th Century, the Ouija board has throughout the decades become an icon of mystery, wonder and the unknown. This particular board is graced with some of the familiar occult ornaments such as crescent moon and stars. Ouija is a trademark of Hasbro.
Y2K was created approximately four months prior to the universal event known as Y2K (Year 2000). The term refers to a potentially crippling global network failure caused by an unforseen computer programming glitch. The basis of the problem stemmed from the fact that computers were not programmed to reliably accomodate the numerical transition from 1999 into the year 2000, seeing as how years had been abbreviated by using only the last two digits for identification purposes. In the latter portion of the 1990s as the decade drew to a close, this glitch began to stir widespread panic in some, and indifference in others. Nobody could accurately predict what effect, if any, the Y2K problem would have on the world. When looking back on the Y2K bug in retrospect after the fact, all that will remain is the reflection of a mystery gone by, and thus we see this very mystery projecting its reflection forward into the future.
Lo and behold, it's Peeping Tom, voyeur savant. Here we see Tom in rare form, taking advantage of a couple of elliptical holes in the wall. Legend has it that Peeping Tom was a Coventry tailor who was struck blind after peeping at Lady Godiva. An exercise in texture, this
piece was constructed by deconstructing a solid black background. Peppered with steely grey pixels, a seemingly random patterned effect emerged, and one which is rather fractal in nature.
