Lessons from a mermaid

"Mermaids" than you will find at Fanfiction.net http://www.fanfiction.net . However this story use the dubs names ONLY for Amy(Ami) and Lita(Makoto).

(It's a nice summer day afternoon in Tokyo. For Amy, it's a perfect day to go to the library. However on her way out the door, she runs into Michiru waiting on her doorstep.)

Michiru : (her hands are hidden behind her back) Hello Amy.
Amy : (she blushes) Oh! Michiru, Hi. I wasn't expecting you. Ummm, what can I do for you?
Michiru : Oh, nothing at all. Haruka and I were on our way out to the country for a picnic, and I thought I'd drop off the gift I got for you.

(Michiru give the box she's hiding behind her back to Amy)

Amy : (surprised) Oh Michiru! I can't accept this...(interrupted by Michiru)
Michiru : Shhhh, not another word Amy. Remember when we talked about you and Lita and about teaching her to swim?
Amy : Yes I do. But what's this box have to do with that?
Michiru : Well, you'll just have to open it and find out, won't you sweetie?
Amy : (doing a teardrop and a funny face)Oh, I see.

(Amy opened the box, her eyes became big circles as she realizes what's was in the box, a
cute, but very brief blue swimsuit with pink tropical flowers.)
Michiru: It's been two weeks and I haven't heard a thing about you two. Times a-wasting hon. You need to call her up and make a date. I want you to wear this.

Amy : Oh Michiru! But, how can I...(interrupted by the honking of a horn. Haruka is waiting out front in the car. It's not her usual yellow convertible but a 1967 Dodge Dart GT
convertible)
Michiru : Sorry, hon. Haruka had a little accident, so we're renting this old clunker while it's in the shop. She's a little grumpy about it I'm afraid.
Amy : I see.
Haruka : (yelling impatiently, tapping the horn again) Michiru, you coming?
Michiru : (to Haruka)Yes, just a moment! (to Amy) Gotta go. Remeber, you'll never find out how she feels about you if you don't ask. You take care of yourself, and Lita! Good luck!
Amy : Thank you Michiru. and I think you should also give to Haruka swimming lessons as
well (winking her left eyes)!
Michiru : (who caught it) Ah, don't worry about that Amy, See you soon.
Amy : Bye Michiru!

(Amy goes back inside, laying the present on the kitchen table, thinking about what Michiru said. Alright she decides, the library can wait. she'll do it. Before she has a chance to change her mind, she goes to the phone and dials Lita's number. The phone rings four times before Lita finally answers.)

Lita : Hello?
Amy : Hi Lita? It's me, Amy. Are you busy?
Lita : Me? Nope, just sitting here trying to find something to clean. What's up?
Amy : Oh? well listen, I have a free membership go swimming at a private pool club. I was thinking of going today and was wondering if you'd like to come along.
Lita : (hesitating) Well....uh...
Amy : If you already had plans, it's okay...
Lita : (lying to Amy) Oh....no, nothing going on with me. sure, I'd like to go.
Amy : hat's great! Ok, here's the address...
Lita : (writing down the directions, speaking softly) Alright Amy. I'll see you there. (Lita hangs up the phone, shaking her head, and a little angry at herself) How did I get myself into that one?

(Amy, gym bag in hand, quickly hops a bus and a takes the elevator up to the sports center level like Michiru had instructed. the doors open into a dimly lit lobby. There's an empty check-in desk, and stairs leading up. she gasps suddenly however as her eyes rest on the wall behind the desk. It's a giant glass underwater window opening onto the pool! The water is a beautiful cool blue. Going quickly upstairs, she passes workout and locker rooms and steps up to a glass door leading to the pool area. It has a keypad lock on the door and she holds her breath as she enters the code Michiru gave her. There's a click, and she's able to open the door. she quickly finds the changing room puts on her new swimsuit. It's not quite what she's used to in swimwear, with large openings in the side and only a small strap around the back. She feels almost sexy as she looks at herself in the mirror.

Soon she's enjoying swimming in the water doing lots of flips and pirouettes. Awhile later, Lita arrives nervously on the scene, her own gym bag in hand. She's not used to being in such a fancy and exits the elevator nervously. Then she spots Amy through the underwater window with her pretty new swimsuit)

Lita : (Sadly watches her swim and dive, talking to herself) I wish I could swim like that. (She hurries up to the pool area.)

(Amy had seen Lita at the window and noticed her meloncolly expression, she quickly rises to the surface, her head appearing just as Lita slips through the glass door. She seems to start suddenly as she looks toward the pool, with its two meter diving board. Amy kicks to the edge and climbs from the water, shaking out her watersoaked hair as Lita drops sadly into a deck chair.)

Amy : (crouching down in front of her friend.) Lita, what's wrong?
Lita : Nothing I...(Starting to cry after a long pause) Oh Amy! I feel so stupid, after coming all the way down here.
Amy : Oh? Why? Don't you know how to swim? I'd be happy to teach you. It'll be fun!
Lita : (wiping her eyes) No, it's not that, I know how to swim, remember when we were at Raye's dad's place?
Amy : The island? Yes, I remember now. You swam very well.
Lita : I like swimming alright but... not in a pool.
Amy : Why? Lita, is there something you want to tell me? I'm your friend.
Lita : Well, yes... I mean, I think so. It's something that happened after my parent's died. Our class was on a fieldtrip to the public pool. That was cool. Everything was going just fine until this one punk kid decided to play a dirty trick on me!
Amy : Yes...?
Lita : (laughs nervously) You know me, even when I was little I wanted to show everyone just how tough I was, so when the teacher wasn't watching, I went up on the diving board.diving board. Not the one meter or the 2 meters like the other kids. I went up to the 3 meters. It didn't look so high from the ground. I was so scared that I was paralyzed, and wanted to go back down. One of the older boys was behind me. He must've been impatient so he pushed me, I fell like a rock! It hurted a lot when I hit the water. And when I was under the water. I opened my eyes, I was lost, I didn't know where I was. I panicked and breathed in water. If there hadn't been a lifeguard there just in time.... (she shudders, hugging herself tight)

Amy : (shocked) Oh Lita!... I'm so sorry. I didn't know.
Lita : It's ok, Amy, it's not like I've ever told anybody. That's the hard part about being an orphan, there's nobody to talk to. Besides, I'm supposed to be the tough, fearless one. Remember?
You know though, that lifeguard was kinda cute. He looked a lot like my- (she quickly covered her mouth with her hands, caught halfway between a laugh and a sob.)
Amy : Lita. I have a good idea, if I could cure you from your fear of swimming pools, would you enjoy swimming in the pool?
Lita : Sure I would. B-But how?
Amy : (sticking her tongue out) Trust me, Lita. You let swimming professor Anderson handle everything.
Lita : (doing a teardrop) Oh, yeah?
Amy : (take Lita's hands, pulling her to her feet and toward the water) Come on Lita, it'll be fun, trust me!
Lita : Euh... wait Amy! I've still got my street cloths on. Let me change fir- Ahhh! (Still wearing a pair of flat-bottomed shoes, Lita suddenly loses her balance on the slippery wet floor)Amy!

(Like a scene from a bad cartoon, Lita falls against Amy who lose her balance too, Amy tries to catch her, but with nothing else to grab for support, Lita's weight carries both of them into the pool! Amy doesn't have any difficulty at all seeing underwater, even without goggles, but Lita has her eyes clamped tightly shut. After a few seconds under the water Lita opens them, blinking at the slight sting of the chlorinated water. Amy smiles at happily at Lita, their faces only inches apart. As they drift apart, Amy averts her eyes with a start, her heart pounding louder as she realizes Lita is removing her clothes. She quickly kicks off her shoes, then undoes the snaps on her brown skirt, and slips her t-shirt off over her head. Amy suddenly feels the touch of a gentle hand. Amy opens her eyes timidly and see's Lita drifting before her in a sporty 2-piece green swimsuit. Her long ponytail floating gracefully above her head. She gives her friend an embarassed look, then a thumbs up.)

Amy : (Thinking) Oh, Lita, you look like a goddess! (Amy releases some bubbles. She'd been exhaling when they'd gone under and she can't hold her breath any longer. She signals to Lita, then shoots to the surface. A moment Later, Lita appears beside her.)

Lita : Sorry! I guess I slipped. Ugh, now I really feel stupid.

Amy : (laughs, tryign to be bright and cheerful so Lita won't have time to realize she should be afraid.) It's okay, we were gonna go in the water anyway. Don't worry, I think there's a clothes drier in the dressing room. This place has everything! But wow, Lita, look at you! You look a goddess in that swimsuit!
Lita : (blushes, looking very embarassed)Oh jeez, thanks Amy. But you're the one who's the goddess. Of water I mean. I wish I could swim like you. (Lita feels a bit self-concious)
Amy : Oh Lita, don't said that. You -can- swim like me, you just wait. Now, lesson number one.
Lita : (Trying not to be afraid) Ummm, what's lesson number one?
Amy : You'll see. This'll be fun! (Amy take Lita's hands, draping them around her neck and shoulders) Now, just hold on and I'll give you a ride through the water, I'll be a seahorse while you'll be the rider.
Lita : Yeah, but I weigh more than you do.
Amy : It doesn't matter. People weigh a lot less in the water, it's simple physics. Now, ready? (Lita nods) GO!!

(Amy and Lita both take deep breaths. Amy dives under with Lita hanging on tight, her ponytail fluttering against her back as they glide through the water. Amy sweeps her arms in front of her, then back, her legs kicking, making good progress even with Lita floating behind her, her hands on Amy's shoulders. Little strings of bubbles occassionally flow back from Amy's face. Lita is so impressed by Amy's graceful motion through the water that she doesn't have time to be afraid, or even think about breathing for that matter. Almost at the 50 meter mark, Amy feels the need for air and rises to the surface.)

Amy: (gasps an inhales) AHHH!!!! That was great!
Lita : (breathes too) Uh-huh. Oh man, we swam this far? That's pretty impressive! Pretty cool first lesson! So, now what do we do?
Amy : Well, now I think it's your turn to be the seahorse.
Lita : Ok, if you said so. But I can't really swim very fast.
Amy : (smiles quite happily as she wraps her arms around her friends strong, bare shoulders) This isn't a race Lita, it's about having fun.

(Again the two girls take a deep breath and after a few heartbeats dove forward and slipped under the water with Amy holding on tight to Lita's shoulders. As they glide downward Amy pratically shivers with excitement as she closes her eyes happily and buries her face deep in the forest of Lita's ponytail. Amy loves the way Lita's silky hair flutters against her cheeks. In spite of Lita's protests and Ami's extra weight Lita's strong limbs pulls them both through the water with surprising speed. In less than a minute they reach the far wall of the pool. Grabbing the edge, Lita tosses her head back and pulls them both to the surface.)

Amy: (Breathes, giving her friend an unexpected hug.) Lita!! You were great!! You made it all the way across the pool!
Lita : Golly, I wanted to impress you, but I didn't think I could do that! Wow! (They float there for a minute, holding onto the edge and getting their breath back.) I suppose we've gotten to the worst part now huh?
Amy : Huh? What do you mean?
Lita : The next lesson.
Amy : You mean the diving board?
Lita : Yes, the diving board. Playing horsey is fun, but I'm still afraid of it!

Amy : Well, it wasn't what I had in mind quite yet, but we could skip ahead to lesson number 4 if you want to.

Lita : (nods her head) I have to face my fear.
Amy : If it would help. I could go on the diving board with you. I mean if you trust me.
Lita : (squeezes her friends hand) Thanks Amy.

(Lita and Amy get out of the pool and goes in direction of the diving board, they climb up a stair
to the 3 meters diving board. Arrived at the edge of the diving board. Lita fells her fears
paralyzed her again.)

Lita : (very frightened) Amy...I...I can't do it!
Amy : Lita, you can fight this fear, after all, we have lots of battles together, remembers the
fights against Beryl, Galaxia,Mistress 9, Wiseman?
Lita : (who controls her fears) Yes,...I remember.
Amy : Jumping from a high diving board is nothing compared to that.
Lita : (thinking) Yes...you're right of course Amy.
Amy : I'm glad to hear it, Lita, if there any trouble, I'll stay at the bottom of the pool or if you want we could dive together.
Lita : I think I can do alone.
Amy : Right! When I will be at the bottom I'll blow some bubbles. That'll be the signal
for you to dive. Okay?
Litter : Sure Amy, no problem
Amy : See you on the bottom.
Lita : Ok.

(Amy prepares her dive, she soar up in the void and then she goes down, hands and head first into the water. Underwater a cloud of bubbles was formed by Amy's dive. Amy swims out with style of the cloud of bubbles, her hairs following each movements of her body. She release a couples of bubbles to the surface. Lita see's them and prepare to dive and trying to fight her fears.)

Lita : (talking to herself) C'mon, I have to do it, Amy's counting on me, I have to, I can do it.

(Lita soar up in the void at her turn and like Amy she goes down, hands and head first, she enters into the water by ripping the surface of the water. A big cloud of bubbles was formed, Lita gets out of the cloud and try to search with her eyes. She saw Amy smiling to her, Lita smiled too and hanged Amy's hands. They look each other for a moment, they go to the surface very slowly
enjoying their moment in the water. There heads was face-to-face, their head brooked the surface of the water slowly)

Lita : (breathes) Amy...I...I did it, I did it!!
Amy : (breathes and hugging Lita) Congratulations Lita! I knew you could!
Lita : Thanks Amy and I want to do it again! Can I dive with you this time? Synchronized diving.
Amy: Sure Lita, no problem.

(They go again to the diving board, arrived at the 3 meters diving board, Amy saw than Lita is still a bit nervous)

Amy: Don't worry Lita, everything will be fine! It'll be easy!
Lita: (trying to fight her fear again) Yes.
Amy: Ok!....Here we go!

(They both soar up and they go down, Amy and Lita goes down head first into the water , a big
cloud of bubbles was formed by their entries in the water, Lita and Amy are at the bottom of the
pool doing a pirouette, their hairs followed each movement of their body. Their feet touched
the bottom of the pool, just before they take a push to the surface, Lita did a "V" sign to Amy,
Amy smiled, thinking how beautiful Lita was when she smiled. They finally rise to the surface.

Lita: (happy and very excited) Yeah!!!! I did it again! Wo-hoo! I-
(interrupted by a sudden yell) What was that?
Amy : (turning her head in direction where the yell come from, startled, but just for a second.) I think I know.

(Amy saw Michiru hanging Haruka by pinching her ear)

Haruka : (crying a lot, like Serena/Usage did in the earlier episodes of Sailor Moon) No, I won't do it! You know I hate water! I don't want to learn to swim, even if it's with you.
Michiru : Haruka, sweetheart, swimming lessons will be good for you. It's Amy who gave me the idea. Oh and guess what, I bought you this simply delicious little blue bikini. Wait til you see it, it's just sooo precious!

Haruka : (Spins around to Amy) Amy!
Amy : (doing little sweatdrops) Eek! Umm, yes?
Haruka : (Angry face like Raye/Rei when she's angry with Serena as Michiru tries to drag her away) I'm gonna remember who I have to thank for this.
Amy : (doing a teardrop and a funny face) Oh, uh right. Sorry. Be brave Haruka!
Lita : Looks like it's my turn to help you with your fear Amy. (Lita winks)
Amy : Yes, I think so.

(Amy and Lita hold hands, floating on their back on the pools surface, watching the clouds in the sky through the rooms huge windows.)
