After Dick and Bruce's falling out as the Dynamic Duo, the Batman went solo for quite a while. During this time, he became a bit darker as the Batman. Deep down inside him, Bruce knew that he needed a Robin. So when a small boy, who he had first met trying to steal the wheels off the Batmobile, helped him on a case he decided to give the boy a chance as Robin. This boy would be known as Jason Todd, the Second Robin. He was cocky, impulsive and full of anger. He was orphaned when his mother died and his father killed by Two Face when the elder Todd messed up a job. Soon though, during his Robin years, Jason discovered his mother wasn't who he thought she was. His real mother was over in Ethiopia. When he searched her out, he discovered that the Joker was holding her in black mail for some stuff she did in Gotham. Jason tried to help her out, but she gave him over to the Joker, who beat him and left him to die in an explosion. In those last moments as mother and son, Jason flung his body infront of his mother, shielding her from the blast. Later, Batman would find Jason Todd's body. A Robin had fallen in battle and Batman was too late to save him.
