Types Of Coasters

The terms below are used tons of times on this site, but you don`t know what they mean. You`re here to find out what they mean. You`ll find out what a wooden coaster, steel coaster, looping coaster, inverted coaster, suspended coaster, & stand-up coaster is. WOODEN COASTER

Viper (Six Flags Great America)

A coaster with a track made of laminated wood. Wooden coasters are generally built on a wooden structure, however, there are some wooden coasters built on a steel structure.

STEEL COASTER

Magnum XL-200 (Cedar Point)

A coaster that uses steel tracks, usually tubular in shape. Steel coasters are generally built on a steel structure, but can be built on a wooden structure.

LOOPING COASTER

Boomerang (Knott`s Berry Farm)

A coaster that turns the rider upside down.

INVERTED COASTER

Batman: The Ride (Six Flags Great America)

A new type of coaster where the trains hang below the track. On an inverted coaster, the cars are stiffly attached so they are unable to swing out, however, loops can be done with this design.

SUSPENDED COASTER

Iron Dragon (Cedar Point)

A coaster where the trains hang below the rails. In the suspended model, the cars are able to swing out to the sides in the curves.

STAND-UP COASTER

The Riddler`s Revenge (Six Flags Magic Mountain)

A coaster in which riders stand up during the ride, rather then sit down. Looping is used frequently in this design.
