By reading the synopsis above you might get the idea this is a drama or even a bit of a thriller but what "Violent Blue" really is might be a hard to explain since it is one of the strangest movies I have seen in some time. I'm not even going to try to explain the plot or even attempt to pigeon-hole the film into a genre for you, the first 20 minutes was like taking an acid trip without the acid, yes it is that out there. I have never seen Director, Gregory Hatanaka's film "Mad Cowgirl" but from what I read it too is something of a trip so I guess he is more into these types of "experimental" films rather than mainstream. For what it's worth the cast did a good job all around including Silvia Suvadova as Katarina and the always entertaining Nick Mancuso as her crazy ex-husband. Not much in the film makes sense but there is certainly a lot going on even if you can't understand why, like for example when Katarina's brother is working on his electronics there's a man and woman behind him having sex. I do give Director, Hatanaka credit for making a film that is certainly different and even challenging but it might take me a few more viewings to really figure out what is going on half the time.

"Violent Blue" is a hard movie for me to recommend to everyone since most will must likely shut it off after the first 10 minutes or so but if you like films that are different then I recommend checking it out since I don't think you are going to find a more unique film out there, I can't say I liked it or not but I was drawn to it in some strange way, it certainly kept me watching and for that I can't give it a bad rating here.
