The Place For The Latest Movie Reviews
Cast: Scott Elrod, Elika Portnoy, Vincent Pastore, Natasha Lyonne, Dennis Lemoine, Carlos Leon, Ashley Wolfe, Jordan Carlos
To erase a burdensome debt to his archrival (Carlos Leon), fashion photographer Rex (Scott Elrod) wagers that he can turn ordinary Dessi (Elika Portnoy) into a supermodel. But as Rex and Dessi fall for each other, the real reason behind her success emerges, threatening their relationship.
Tricks of a Woman doesn't really offer much originality as far as story goes but it makes up for it with an excellent cast and charm. Rex doesn't know what he is in for when he makes a bet with his archival, he certainly never thought he would fall in love with a a woman who he attempts to make into a supermodel but there's other things at play including fate. Like I stayed before one of the reasons this comedy succeeds is because of it's wonderful cast. Scott Elrod and Elika Portnoy are both terrific, they have great chemistry together and are amazing even when they are not sharing the screen together. Vincent Pastore is also his marvelous self as the owner of the eatery. The film has the same formula most romantic comedies have but it also offers up a few on it's own ideas and surprises as well. There's a little bit for everyone here, romance for the girls and some comedy for the guys plus a good bit of drama as well. It certainly makes for a great date movie, in this case one to sit around the couch together and enjoy. The film won several awards and for good reason. The story moves at a brisk pace and it kept my attention the entire time. I couldn't help but hope everything turned out for the best for this couple, it didnt take long to become invested in the film and in it's characters.
What separates Tricks of a Woman is it's cast, I don't think the film-makers could of found a better group of actors to play these characters. This is an award winning cast that makes this film an award winner itself. If you enjoy a good romance with a little comedy and drama tossed in then you are sure to find this diamond in the rough as entertaining as I did. The DVD comes with Special Features that include:
