When she learns that she's in danger of losing her visa status and being deported back to her native Canada, overbearing book editor Margaret Tate (Sandra Bullock) forces her put-upon assistant, Andrew Paxton (Ryan Reynolds), to marry her.

It is hard to make a romantic comedy today without it feeling like the last one or the one before that, The Proposal like those that came before it doesn't break any new ground in terms of story but it does some things much better than others. The story is simple, Bullock is the Executive Editor In Chief of a book publishing company who is not liked by anyone in the company, including her executive assistant, Andrew. When Margaret learns she is ready to be deported to Canada and will lose her job she thinks fast and blackmails her assistant into agreeing to marry her. When a government official believes they are pulling a fast one Margaret ups the ante and takes a trip home with Andrew to Alaska to announce their engagement. As soon as the plane touches ground in Canada is when the real comedy starts, Bullock and Reynolds are both fantastic and very funny and they both had great chemistry together, I thought they were one of best on screen couples in some time. One of the most delightful and most hilarious parts of the film was Betty White who plays the naughty grandma, she is amazingly funny here and it took me back to the days when I use to sit down and watch the "Golden Girls" on Television. The rest of the cast as excellent as well including Mary Steenburgen and Craig T. Nelson as Andrew's parents. The cinematography was super and the scenery in Alaska was breath-taking. The Proposal is indeed predictable, you can see the ending coming before the film is halfway over but with a humorous, touching script and a delightful cast it is a joy getting there. Certainly one of the better romantic comedies in some time and one that plays to both the female and male audience making it a perfect date flick or just a entertaining film that any fan of comedy is sue to enjoy. The film is released on a single DVD,Deluxe Edition DVD Two-Disc Set and Blu-ray. It also comes packed with Special Features that include an Alternate Ending,Deleted Scenes,Outtakes,Audio Commentary and a Digital Copy of the film.
