Late one night, a mysterious car is brought into the Chicago police impound garage after a deadly traffic accident. The on-call mechanics soon discover the car has a mind of its own. With hundreds of horsepower and two tons of reinforced steel at its command, it's a seemingly unstoppable killing machine capable of outrunning -- and outwitting -- humans.
I have seen a lot of negatives reviews on this film but after watching it myself I wonder if all those people went into it looking for another "Christine." Sure there's going to be comparisons, hell even in the artwork says, "In The Tradition of Christine" but that doesn't mean that this is just some rip-off either. Besides the obvious killer car theme "Super Hybrid" brings it's own ideas to the table. To talk about the story and what happens in the film besides what is written above would only create spoilers so I am not going to do that here. But I can say the film wastes no time getting to the action but I the first 10 minutes or so had me wondering if this was just another rip-off as well but it got better as it went along. I would have to call this more an action/thriller than an all out horror film, sure there are horror and sci-fi elements that play an important part in the film but the movie succeeds because of it's relentless action and the suspense it manages to create especially during the film's final act.
Like any other movie this one does have it's flaws and it could of been better if it had a bigger budget to work with but getting funding for a killer car movie was tough enough let alone getting a big budget to work with. Considering the budget I thought the film looked and played much bigger and the director did a great job at using what he had to work with.
As far as the acting goes the cast did a good job, Oded Fehr was excellent as the whining boss. He did a good job at making you dislike him and hoping he meets his end. Shannon Beckner also did a fine job as the film's main character. Over-all "Super Hybrid" was much better than I expected and it contains enough action, suspense and even a few twists to keep you interested and at the edge of your seat.
