In Nazi Germany during World War II, as the tide turned in favor of The Allies, a cadre of senior German officers and politicians desperately plot to topple the Nazi regime before the nation is crushed in a near-inevitable defeat. To this end, Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, an Army officer convinced he must save Germany from Hitler, is recruited to mastermind a real plan. To do so, he arranges for the internal emergency measure, Operation: Valkyrie, to be changed to enable his fellows to seize control of Berlin after the assassination of the Fuhrer.

There has been several other movies made about the historical event like the 1990 film 'The plot to kill Hitler', Valkyrie may not claim to be a remake of this film but they both deal with the same events. I am one of those people can could do with or without Tom Cruise as an Actor but I got to say after watching this film I was very impressed with his performance as Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, the man in charge of getting Germany back and also the one that would set out to kill Hitler. The entire cast here was top notch, each actor did a fantastic job at making their character's believable. Also the production values, direction, script, cinematography and music are all superb. If your someone that is familiar with the history of these events then you will be glad to know the film is historically accurate but even if you already know this is still a well made film that is thrilling and captivating. Most people look back on the Nazi regime and think that all Germans were Nazi but this film shows there were at least some people that had humanity, at this point in the war Hitler was on a major downward spiral and it was obvious to everyone that they were going to lose the war but these brave few still saw that Hitler had to go before more innocent people were tortured or killed. I was glued to Television from the film's opening scenes and was not only entertained with a psychological thriller but taught a history lesson as well. I try to get my reviews up a little closer to street date than this but after watching this tonight I felt I had to tell you all just how great a film this is. The story is simply amazing and the men that fought for what was right knowing that not only put their own lives in danger bot those closest to them as well will always be remembered for taking the ultimate sacrifice. I cannot recommend this movie enough, it is a must own DVD/BLU-Ray when it comes out on May 19th.
