At the dawn of World War 2, a Rabbi's daughter and a disenchanted German soldier fall in love and are separated by the war. They struggle on a perilous journey to find one another.

Hearts Of War aka "The Poet" is a compelling love story about a Jewish girl who falls in love with a German soldier in World War 2. That is the good news for you women but the film also has plenty of action with good battle scenes that is sure to please the male viewers. Oscar a German soldier saves Rachel's life twice, once in a very bad snow storm and the second time when her village is under attack and her and a little Jewish boy are being held by soldiers, this is when the two form a forbidden love. Afraid Rachel will get caught or killed he sends the two of them to Russia but the German soldiers are hot on her trail and there is danger at every turn. Oscar on the advice of his mother goes to find them after he regrets sending them away. This leads to a climax that is both thrilling and surprising. The film is beautiful to look at, the cinematography,settings and military gear is fantastic. The cast couldn't be better, Roy Scheider is great in one of his final roles and Jonathan Scarfe and Nina Dobrev are fantastic together, they show great on screen chemistry. This may not be the best War film ever made but it is a solid film with excellent acting,great interesting characters and a well paced script that blends the love story perfectly with the action scenes. If you are a fan of war movies I am certain you will enjoy this, plus the film has a something to offer for everyone making for a good night of entertainment.The DVD is light on extras but it does contain:
