Barbara Hoffman (Birch) is a University of Wisconsin science student. She is a part-time employee at a local massage parlor. She is also a killer. Now all Detective Lulling (Carradine) has to do is prove it.Winter of Frozen Dreams is based on the book by the same name by Karl Harter.
Based on true events that shocked the world back in the 70's it tells the story of a calculated, cold-blooded killer and those she used around her to get her way. I was really looking forward to seating down to this film, for one I am a fan of any type of Thriller or Mystery as well as any film that is based off true events. Lets begin by saying there is a lot going on in this film, you get present day as well as flashback scenes to tell the story so be prepared to pay attention because you are going to need it. If you are not familiar with Barbara Hoffman murder case then you are in for a treat, this was one of the most bizarre cases in history. This is a woman accused of killing three of her clients after she seduced them into leaving their money to her. Don't be fooled by the looks this woman was a Biochemistry major with a very high I.Q. so she knew exactly what she wanted and how to go about getting it. The cast was terrific, Thora Birch does a fantastic job playing the role of Barbara and Keith Carradine is a real pro and did a excellent job as Detective Lulling who is out to solve the case no matter the cost. I do not know the reason why this never got a major theatrical run and it is kinda sad that movies like this some how get over-looked but thanks to Monterey Media everyone will get to see it this coming May. By the way Barbara Hoffman still sits in prison today and to this day has refused to talk about any of this plus she refuses to apply for parole. Winter of Frozen Dreams is a Film-Noir Thriller laced with mystery that is as riveting as it is thought-provoking. I cannot recommend owning this DVD enough come this May, the DVD will also come with Special Features:
Keith Carradine Interview
Behind the Scenes
True Crime: Behind the Headlines
