The Place For The Latest Movie Reviews
Cast: William Lee Scott, Melissa Joan Hart, John Terry, Chip Bent, James Victor
Nine strangers face the mind-bender of a lifetime when a hooded madman locks them in a basement and announces that he will slay one of them every 10 minutes until they uncover the mysterious connection they all share. But starting without a single clue, can any of them solve the puzzle in less than 90 minutes?
I would call this more a thriller than a horror film but the scenario is certainly frightening to say the least. The plot isn't anything real original but the film does bring some of it's own ideas along for the ride as well. The film's cast did a great job over-all including Melissa Joan Hart who does a nice job playing in a film and a role much different then most will remember since we all know her from her hit TV show. If you must call this a horror film it is certainly a thinking man's horror film that has you hanging on to see what these nine people who at first seen to have connection whatsoever besides all one of them being kidnapped and chained to the poles waiting their fate share together and by doing so finding out who the man behind the mask is and what was his motivation behind this horrific act. The production here is fantastic and the plot is both clever and thought-provoking as well. The film unfolds slowly as the nine "strangers" attempt to unravel the mystery before they are all dead, it certainly captivates the audience. Nine Dead is a not your typical fright film and that is a good thing, it offers a much different kind of horror that instead of scaring the audience or being filled with tons of gore it instead leaves you in suspense the entire time. If you like films like "Cube" or "Unknown" you can going to enjoy this one as well and for those that might not of seen the two films I just mentioned and are just looking for something different from the slasher/torture movies that have been coming out in the last year or two then this will certainly make for a nice change of pace as well as being an entertaining thriller that delivers on suspense and fear.
