The Place For The Latest Movie Reviews
Cast: Dave Foley, Art Hindle, Robert Maillet, Lance Henriksen, Jimmy Hart, Herb Dean, Kevin Nash
Welcome to the world of MONSTER BRAWL, the award-winning monster mash-up and undeniable crowd pleaser of this year's film fest circuit.
There's really not a lot to say about the film's plot here, it's basically a UFC pay-per-view type film which features monsters such as Frankenstein and Cyclops. There really is no story, there is just an introduction of each monster and then they do battle in the ring.
The monsters included in the film are, Cyclops, Mummy, Lady Vampire, Zombie Man, Witch Bitch, Swamp Gut, Werewolf, and Frankenstein. If you're a fan of the WWE or the UFC then you are going to get a kick out of this but fan's of horror/comedy are also going to enjoy the film. There's no character development here, the film is more like a live action Celebrity Death Match but with monsters. There's plenty of laughs along the way and the fights were mostly all very entertaining and the make-up and effects are very well done considering the film's budget.
I had a great time watching the film, sure it wasn't perfect but for the genre it was lots of fun. You know what you're getting here before even inserting the DVD into your player so if you like this sort of craziness then I highly recommend checking it out. I really hope they get a little bigger budget and make a sequel perhaps with a little more of a story the next time around but this is one movie I will certainly revisit at some point. "Monster Brawl" is a lot of fun alone or with a group of friends, either way if you think you like the idea of having classic monsters fight to the death to see once and for all who is the champion then you're going to have a blast watching it.
Available on DVD and Blu-ray, both come with Special Features that include:
Audio Commentary with Writer/Director Jesse Thomas Cook and Producers Matt Wiele and John Geddes
Behind The Scenes
Outtakes
You can order the film HERE.Writer/Director, Jesse Thomas Cook has a good eye for the genre, I look forward to seeing what he comes up with next. "Monster Brawl" also features a terrific cast including Kevin Nash and Jimmy Hart from the WWE and it also features the great Lance Henrikson as well as David Foley. The film could of been a classic but sadly it falls a little short on that but it is still a great time either way.
