The Place For The Latest Movie Reviews
Cast: David Heavener, Roddy Piper, Ariel Teal Toombs
Michael San Chica is an ex-priest. He is also an investigator documenting true events of demonic possession. When Michael comes to the rescue of the newly possessed Tatiana McMurter, daughter of a Baptist minister, he discovers that he has encountered this demon before, a demon he vowed to track down and send back to hell. Because this time it's not business, it's personal.
The story is about Tatiana McMurter who lives with her mother and stepfather, a Baptist Minister. When strange things begin happening to Tatiana the family takes the girl to the doctors thinking she has a medical condition but when nothing seems to work the mother calls in Michael San Chica, an ex-Priest and Investigator of demonic possessions. Michael has a gift or curse depending on how you look at it that allows him to have visions of the past and future. When he finally arrives at the girl's home he quickly realizes there is more than just one demon at play here and that his past has come into his present and he will have to find the faith he needs in order to save Tatiana and himself. The film wastes no time getting to the heart of the story, even though it takes about a half hour into the film for Michael to reach the family the narrative and scenes of what has been happening to girl up to that point keep you interested and engaged. The film claims to be based on true events which I can't argue either way about but I can tell you this is a low-budget, Independent film that makes the most of what it has to work with. David Heavener co-wrote,directs and stars in the film as Michael and he gives a very good and convincing performance, in fact the entire cast does a terrific job including Ariel Teal Toombs who is fantastic as Tatiana, she does a great job at playing both the innocent girl and is excellent when needed as the girl possessed by the demon. Roddy Piper is also in the film, his role is limited but he plays an important character and Roddy handles the character with ease. There seems to be a flood of exorcism movies coming out lately but "Legion" easily finds it's place for several reasons. What it lacks in production values it makes up in story, I really thought the narrative here worked really well and there is always something happening in the film which keeps it moving at a nice pace. The film also contains a good amount of gore and the visuals provide some nice scares as well as some chilling and disturbing moments. There is also a nice twist at the end which wraps the story up quite nicely.
It might all seem a little confusing at first but I recommend sticking with it because it ties all the loose ends together nicely as it moves along. It you're looking for some big Hollywood production with A-list stars I suggest you look elsewhere but if you like Independent cinema and films that deal with possession then I highly recommend checking out "Legion: The Final Exorcism." The film delivers mainly because of it's clever story and haunting visuals that stay with you even after it is over. The DVD comes with Special Features that include
