The Place For The Latest Movie Reviews
Cast: Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins
Transplanted to Mars, a Civil War vet discovers a lush planet inhabited by 12-foot tall barbarians. Finding himself a prisoner of these creatures, he escapes, only to encounter a princess who is in desperate need of a savior.
I have to admit that over the years I have become pretty bored with the summer fare. It seems like all it is anymore is big budget special effects with no story or characters to speak of but John Carter changed that.
The film looks great, it's vision of Mars is amazing and as you might guess the effects are excellent and the creatures are very cool and creative but there's more to the film than all the eye candy. For starters the film has characters that are actually developed, their not overly complex but their developed enough to give you some feelings about them and you never see that in CGI films like this anymore. Secondly the film has an actually story that keeps you interested. There's plenty of twists and turns along the way as well that keeps the interest high.
The film was a major disappointment at the box-office which I blame on poor advertising. When you see the trailer you really have no clue what the film is about besides it's loaded with special effects but it should and will fair much better now that it is available on DVD and Blu-ray. Before I forget let me say that the cast which includes Taylor Kitsch as John Carter and Lynn Collins as the Princess all give wonderful performances.
The film comes in a few different packages including, Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo, Four-Disc Combo: Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy and Single DVD. All come with Special Features that include:
