The Place For The Latest Movie Reviews
Cast: Natalie Grant, Billy Dean, Rusty Whitener, Mike Rosenbaum, Randall Franks
A family in despair rediscovers its faith in this uplifting drama from the producers of WWJD: What Would Jesus Do? Natalie Grant (Four-time GMA Dove Awards Female Vocalist of the Year) stars as Ilene, who struggles to make ends meet after the tragic death of her firefighter husband (country music star Billy Dean). When she begins to lose control of her heartbroken teenage son Jackson (Michael Rosenbaum), she reaches out to her estranged father Wyatt (Rusty Whitener), a farmer, to take in the troubled boy. Wyatt is a good man but set in his ways, and Jackson resists Wyatt’s attempts to instill in him the virtues of hard work and his Christian values. Gradually, they form a bond that will require Jackson to find an inner strength he never knew he had to avert yet another family tragedy.
"Decision" is a Dove approved family film and right from the start you get the feeling that it's going to be a movie about lessons learned and by the time the credits everyone will have something to think about. The story is about Ilene a woman who recently lost her Firefighter husband in a car accident and is left pregnant and scared and to make maters worse her teenage son Jackson isn't taking the loss of his father well. He's is picked on at school, when he's there anyway and is just having a hard time moving on. To make matters worse Ilene is in danger of losing her home as well as the bills just keep piling up. Out of desperation she calls her father, the two never really got along all that well but she thinks it might be a good idea for Jackson to go and stay with his grandfather till school resumes. The Grandfather is set in his ways and owning a farm knows what it's like to put in a full day's work so he has no plans of going easy on the boy. The problem is he has a bad ticker which he takes medication for, after a few days the two begin finding that middle ground so Jackson's grandfather decides to take him on a little hunting trip for a few days. It's there that the grandfather's weakness gives Jackson the strength he was looking for all this time.
The cast including Natalie Grant (Four-time GMA Dove Awards Female Vocalist of the Year), Country Singer, Billy Dean and Michael Rosenbaum all give realistic, emotional performances. Sure this isn't a A-list cast but they get the job done. The story is about finding the strength and faith in God to move on in life when it seems like an impossible task plus it's a bout family being there for one another when in matters most. The settings and landscapes are a treat for the eyes, over-all the production value looks much higher than the budget would suggest. "Decision" isn't much different than any other Christian film but it doesn't need to be because it delivers all the right messages and it teaches some valuable lessons we can all learn from. Of course these faith based films have a built in audience so if they are not something you normally watch then give this a pass but if you like these films that the whole family can watch and possibly talk about later then I highly recommend pick it up.
