The Place For The Latest Movie Reviews
Cast: Michelle Ruiz, Ted Fred, Mike Talbott, Benjamin Barton
Some crimes can’t be forgiven - they must be avenged. Molly's calm 9-5 life is turned upside down when the local gang brutally attacks her. She survives this horrific ordeal only to find the thugs want her dead and are determined to kill her. Molly’s only hope is to stand her ground and fight. A gritty tale of a notorious gang’s vicious crime spree and the efforts of one brave woman to stop them, Dark Measures explores the darkest side of humanity in a gripping and terrifying hard core portrayal of hard core street life.
Molly works a 9 to 5 job and lives a normal life then one day a group of thugs attack, beat and rape her leaving her to die. When a man finds her laying on the side of the road she is taken to the hospital. She doesn't really remember much about what happened or what her attackers looked like. When the thugs find out that Molly is still alive they aim to finish the job and she must fight to stay alive.
Billed as a revenge film I can honestly say I can't see it. She is never really avenging anything she's only fighting back in order to stay alive which is mostly during the film's climax. Another thing I must comment on is the film's art-work, it's very misleading and there's no long-haired woman sliding around with two guns in a leather suit in the film either so don't think that is what you're going to see when you go to pick this up. The film is a slow mover with lots of drama so don't expect loads of action here. Done on a very low budget the production suffers some what from it and a good bit of the acting is weak. The action scenes are not done very well either. I know I'm making the film sound horrible here but it's not completely bad it's just not that good. I think it's one I could only recommend to true fan's of Indie cinema because mainstream movie-goers are not going to be satisfied with this one.
The story had it's flaws as well but it's still the film's main strength. As a fan and strong supporter of Indie films I try to find something good in everything I review but this one made it a bit more difficult to do so. Still I think some of you out there may want to check it out for yourselves since everyone has their likes but I can't really recommend this one to many. The DVD will be released on 7/24 and you can order it HERE.
