From The Producer Of GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE And The Director Of THE THIRTEENTH FLOOR How far would you go to find a missing child? And how much are you willing to believe – and trust – in the unknown in order to get there? Academy Award® Winner Jon Voight, Dermot Mulroney (THE GREY) and Teri Polo (LITTLE FOCKERS) star in this chilling thriller about a 7-year-old girl kidnapped from her bedroom one wintry night in an Anchorage suburb. But when a close-to-retirement police detective (Voight) obsessed with child abductions begins his investigation, he’ll clash with a mysterious radio psychic (Julian Morris of “Pretty Little Liars” and CRY WOLF) who claims to have visions of the missing girl. Now the trail is getting cold. Time is running out. And in the most disturbing twists of all, the ultimate clues may be coming from a place outside the law, past human reason and forever frighteningly BEYOND.
"Beyond" is part police mystery and part supernatural thriller. The story focuses on a seven-year-old girl named Amy who is taken from her bedroom in the middle of the night. The mother named Sarah asks for help from a radio psychic who claims to have had visions of the girl alive. The police chief who is the victim's uncle assigns the case a veteran detective from Anchorage Police Department . The old , semi-retired , Inspector named John Koski teams with the tabloid psychic to track down the missing child. This film remind of a made for TV movie but with better production values and a much better cast than anything you might see on TV.
The cast is terrific including Jon Voight as a "take no prisoners" veteran detective, who specializes in cases involving missing children. Dermot Mulroney as the police chief and Teri Polo as the girl's mother are also very good in the film. Director Josef Rusnak keeps the action moving along at a fast pace, taking full advantage of the breathtaking Alaskan landscapes plus he mixes the crime story perfectly with the supernatural elements at play. The film offers up plenty of suspense and thrills and even several plot twists along the way to keep the audience off guard. Predictable in a few spots but otherwise a highly entertaining crime story with a supernatural twist. What really made this film better than just average was Jon Voight, he is terrific as the semi-retired detective, Voight isn't in many movies anymore and it was certainly nice to see his enormous talent on film again.
I wouldn't say "Beyond" is a must-buy but it is certainly worth checking out if you like a good crime/mystery. I was taken in by the characters and the story right from the start and it kept me engaged till the shocking end.
