The Place For The Latest Movie Reviews
Cast: Nicholas Irons, Tamzin Outhwaite, Jason Flemyng, Gulshan Grover, Andrew MacBean, Sandra Teles
When well-known soap opera actress Lili Taylor (Tamzin Outhwaite) travels to India with her husband, Andy (Nicholas Irons), to seek treatment after a paralyzing accident, their exotic trip takes a detour from deeply relaxing to downright treacherous. After Andy sleeps with a beautiful local (Sandra Teles), Lili's body turns up in a fisherman's net, raising questions about her husband's motives for murder.
As the film opens Andy and his wife are at a party, Andy is suffering from a case of writer's block and the book company is thinking about getting their front money back, money Andy no longer has. You can also sense him and his wife are not a very happy couple, she drinks on a constant basis and they both of seem to be stuck in a marriage they don't want to be in. During the party Andy opens a door to one of the rooms in the house to find his wife having sex with another man, instead of storming in the room and confronting the two he decides to walk away instead. After the party while driving home Andy falls asleep at the wheel and the two are involved in an accident that leaves his wife crippled which only increases the misery they are both suffering in the marriage. When his brother-in-law suggests they go to India for special treatment which seems like a good idea and maybe a new start for them both. Another thing you will find odd is the doctor treating his wife told them he does not understand why she has no feeling in her lower body since the tests show she should, again this makes you wonder what her motives might be. The film is full of deceit, lies and betrayal but once they arrive in India and Andy falls for a local, married woman, murder and mystery take center stage. Betrayed by Passion is a well-written thriller that does an excellent job of keeping the viewer interested, guessing and waiting to see what happens next. After the wife is found dead the film hits you with a number of suspects including Andy himself and it offers a nice twist when the killer is finally revealed. The production all around is very good over-all and the cast including, Tamzin Outhwaite and Nicholas Irons as the wife and husband are fantastic in their roles and Jason Flemyng is also very good as the brother-in law.
This is an adult thriller that weaves a web of deceit which slowly draws you in and doesn't let up till the credits begin to roll. I was taken in my the story right from the start and even though it is a little slow moving and not really any action it still manages to keep a nice pace to it. If you like this type of murder/thriller with a bit of mystery to it then I highly recommend picking up Betrayed by Passion today.
