The Place For The Latest Movie Reviews
Cast: Michiko Jiminez, Shane Ryan
The unofficial story of a killer who kidnaps and kills three girls is told through the tale of his last victim, 'Amateur Porn Star Killer' is about a girl he picks up on the street and convinces to go back to his hotel room. The girl is shy, unnerved, and yet unable to take herself out of a bad situation. The killer is a guy who seems at first nothing more than your standard, 18 year old pervert with a penchant for filming his sexual escapades. An unsettling darkness descends.
Before sitting down to this I had read mixed reviews on the film but like always I entered it with an open mind. Director Shane Ryan knows how to push the limits on film making and he not only shocks the audience but his films are always thought-provoking as well. This one is no different and it is a hard movie to watch and even harder to turn away from. The film is slow and the murder and sex scenes are off camera but that doesn't make it any less affective and as an audience do we really want to see it anyway? The lighting, noise and camera movement really give you the fell of watching these horrific events happen before your eyes. Call it slow or even boring but there is a reason for it all and this is a bold film that Hollywood could never make. The film's run time is short and the budget here was almost nothing but both just add to the over-all effect they was looking for here. Ryan not only directed the film but he is also it's star and I got to say he did a fantastic job in both departments. Jimenez is also amazing as the young girl considering the material at hand and the fact the film was shot without any edits. The film quality is bad but that is the look Ryan was looking for I'm sure. This will certainly not be for everyone but if you like this sort of snuff horror film I think you will be just as pleased as I was watching it. It is not an easy film to watch but that is the whole point, it is meant to shock the viewer and get you thinking and that is exactly what it does. This is a real gem and a classic as far as these kind of 70's style films go. If you got the stomach to watch something like this then I highly recommend picking this one up and giving it a try. Shane Ryan is an amazing film-making with great vision and an eye for making movies that leave you thinking long after they are over. I only recently began seeing a few of his films but I am a fan now. The DVD comes with special features that include:
