As the steely Alice lies tethered to a bed, an escalating battle of wills -- and wits -- ensues when setbacks shift the balance of power.
"The Disappearance of Alice Creed" is a well done Indie film that is both cleverly written and brilliantly acted. During the first 30 minutes or so you might be wondering where the film is going if anywhere with it's smut and torture porn scenes but once the story truly kicks in it becomes a hell of a ride. The film is a shockingly brutal, twisty-turny, attention-grabbing British crime thriller about two men who think they have the perfect plan, kidnap young heiress Alice Creed and make big on the ransom but events take place neither of them expected and soon the tables begin to turn. This is no doubt an adult thriller but it is also an example of such how good Independent cinema can be when there's a terrific script and cast in place. To give away anymore details on what happens in the film would be a crime itself, there are so many twists and turns it is a film that needs to be seen rather than told about here. I can tell you a lot of unexpected stuff happens and the plan gets desperate really quickly which leaves the viewer with no idea who will survive this scenario. There are some really suspenseful moments that will keep you on the edge of your seat and there is a ton of tension and drama between the three characters. An original and clever thriller, I highly recommend this is fans of of genre and for those that like films that are made outside of Hollywood. The cast does a terrific job, Gemma Arterton as Alice and Eddie Marsan and Martin Compston as the two that kidnap her.
