You stated your case, time and again....
Through out the evening, Jane kept looking for Zac. For about a half an hour, he was no where to be seen, but then she finally spotted him, talking to a few other people. He looked very friendly, but at the same time, he had thise ere to him; kind of mysterious, like he knew something everyone else didn't.
Before she knew it, Zac was up at the bar again.
"Hi."
"Hi." She said, turning around.
"You look excited to be here." He said sarcastically.
"Well, yeah. These aren't exactly my scene." She said, gesturing to all the people.
"Oh." He said. "I see where you're coming from."
"I mean, this is nice, but I don't really know anyone. I'm baisically here for my dad." She said.
"Ah. He's told us a lot about you."
"Oh he has?"
"Yeah. Like, you played soccer, and you like to sing, although you would never admit it, you're secretly shy, you have a good sense of humor, you were a dork in high school, you're nearsighted, right handed, you're good with computers, and you have a secret passion for ice cream. Cookies and Cream, to be exact." Zac said.
Jane was impressed. "Wow, you pay attention."
"Well now you know something about me." he said. "But he really does talk about you a lot."
"Good things, I hope." jane said. She wanted to keep this conversation she had going with Zac as long as she could. Something about him interested her, although she couldn't tell what it was....
"Zac!" Zac turned around at the sound of Taylor's voice. "We gotta go talk to some guys, they might be able to hook us up with some cool people for the new album." Taylor said, walking up. His bright blue eyes fell on Jane. He gave her a slight wave and nodded. "Hey Jane."
"Hey." Jane said, suddenly feeling very small.
"Just, come over to the table soon. They have to leave in a few." Taylor added, wringing his hands together.
"Okay." Zac said.
"See ya. Nice meeting you Jane." Taylor said.
"Likewise." Jane said.
Zac turned to her. "I'll see you around?" he asked hopefully.
Jane's heart sunk. There went that. "Yeah. I'll see you around." She said, trying to hide her dissappointment. Zac smiled one last time then turned to walk away. Oh well, she thought. He was nice to talk to. A lot different that she had imagined him out to be, but nice.
"Hey baby, do you have a quarter?"
"If I did, I wouldn't give it to you." Jane said, giving the man a once up and down. She was sitting at the bar, leaning on ther elbow. Half an hour had turned into an hour, and an hour into an hour an a half. It was now past midnight, and the party was still going, and Jane was still sitting at the bar, waiting for her father. Normally she wouldn't have been this patient, but this was his night, and she didn't want to spoil it for him.
"Cuz my mom told me to call her when I fall in love." The man said. Actually, he wasn't a man. He was about sixteen or seventeen, and he had dark brown hair that was bleached bright blonde and spiked up. He wore bright clothing and didn't fit in either.
"That was so bad." She said.
"What are you talking about, you're hot." He said.
Jane made a face and turned her attention back to her drink. Was this her third? Fourth? She had lost count.
"I got a hotel room across the street." He said, scooting closer to her at the bar.
"Go away." She said, sighing.
"Oh I see." He said, scooting closer. Jane moved the oppisite way, frowning. "You wanna play games." He said.
"Uh, can you even drink?" She asked him.
"I'm into games." He said, licking his lip. "You know, GAMES." He said, winking at her.
"Can you take a hint?" She asked.
"What chu talkin bout?" He asked her, scooting closer. Jane looked straight forward, about to kill.
He was just beggining to blow in her ear when someone tapped her on the shoulder.
Jane turned around, shocked to see Zac Hanson standing in front of her.
"Oh, Hi." She said, glad to see someone, anyone else.
"Hi." He said, looking at her. His eyes drifted to the boy sitting beside her, who was glaring at Zac. "Am I...interrupting something?" He slowly asked, eyes darting back in forth between them.
"NO." She said quickly.
"Yes." The kid said, looking pointedly at Zac.
"Uh, we're ready to go." He said, taking her arm, not taking his eyes off the boy.
Jane got the hint. "Oh, yeah." She said, picking up her evening bag.
"Where you goin?" The boy asked jumping up.
"With me." Zac said, smiling curtly at him. He linked his arm with hers and the two quickly walked away. Once they were out of sight and to the door of the almost empty ballroom, they both laughed.
"Oh my." She said between giggles. "Thank you so much, that was terrible." She said.
"I saw you were in distress, so I thought you could use a little help." He said with a laugh, glancing to the bar.
"Oh, my night in shining armor." She joked. "That was awful." She added.
"You sure looked thrilled to be there." He said. "You should have seen the look on your face; you were about to kill."
"Yes, I was." She said.
"What was he saying, just out of curiosity?" He asked.
"Well, he used just about every bad pick up line in the book." She said. "My gosh, I don't even think he was of legal driving age, much less drinking age." She said with a giggle.
"Yeah, he didn't look to sharp." Zac said.
Jane's dad appeared. "YOu ready to go honey?" He said.
"Just about." Zac answered for her. He smiled slyly at Jane's father, then Curt nodded, and walked out.
"Well, thanks again for saving me." She said, looking at him. Their eyes met for a second, then she looked at her hands, which were nervously fumbling with her purse.
"Hey, listen." He said. "I know you've got to go now, but I would like to see you again."
Jane looked at him, shocked. "Uh..." She stuttered. She had no idea what to say. Zac Hanson wanted to see her again.
"What do you say?"
"Um, I don't even know you." She said.
"What do you want to know?" He asked, a twinkle in his eye.
She laughed at his attempty. "Well I just met you a few hours ago." She said. "What if you're some psycho?" She joked.
"Well I can assure you the answer to that one is no." He said with a laugh.
"That's a start." She said.
"But no, seriously." He said. "Will you go out with me next Saturday?" He asked.
"Zac..." She paused. Should she say yes? Then again, why would some big shot be interested in her?
"Please?" He asked. "I promise not to chop you up." He added.
She laughed.
"Come on. You know you want to." He said, giving her a grin.
"I still don't know you." She said.
"But what if we were meant to be?" He asked.
"What?" She asked, not believing what she had heard.
"What if we'r soulmates and we were meant to be together, but the only thing keeping us apart is the fact that you wont' go on one date with me?" He asked.
Jane laughed, not knowing what to say. "I don't know." She said.
He smiled. "Okay, tell you what; we'll just MEET somewhere, no date-"
"No date."
"And you can get go know me." He said.
"I still don't know." She said.
"Please? Your dad has told me so much about you, I feel like I've known you forever."
"I guess." She said, thinking a moment.
"Great." He said.
"So what should we do?" She asked him.
"Well, I could pick you up at eight on Saturday and we could go to dinner." He said hopefully.
"You're funny, and that sounds like a date." She said.
"Do you have a rule about not dating?" He asked her with a laugh.
"No, I'd just like to get to know you better before I date you." She said.
"Okay, how's this; It's not a date until you want it to be." He said. "And we can just keep going out until you like me enough to date me."
She thought a moment. "If you're trying to charm me into saying yes, I might have to." She said with a smile.
"That was the general intention of my approach." He said with a smile.
"Well...okay." She said.
"So I'll pick you up Saturday at eight?" He asked.
"Yes." She said. "And it's not a date."
"Of course not." He said, opening the door for her as they walked out.
"Here honey, I'm over here." Her father said, waving her over. Zac walked her over to the car. "I'll see you then." He said.
"Okay." She said.
"Bye."
"Wait, Zac, do you know where I live?" She asked.
"Course." He said with a smile. He watched their car pull out of the parking lot before going to his own.
