"Hello?" A quiet, dull voice answered the phone. Katie smiled, knowing it was Zac from the scratchy voice.
"Zac?"
"Oh hi." He said.
"Can we meet? I need to talk to you." She said.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing, I just need to talk to you." She said.
"Okay." He said quietly. "I'll be over there in a few minutes. I'll ride my bike." He said.
"Okay." She said. "Bye."
"Bye."
She hung up, and then a ten minutes later, she heard Zac come clunking up the stairs. He knocked politely on the door, and then opened it on her command.
"Hi." He said, still in his coat. His face was still slighty drawn, and he had his hands shoved in his pockets.
"You can take your coat off." She said.
"Okay." He said. He removed his coat, then walked over to where she was on the bed.
"Zac, I have to tell you something."
"Are you breaking up with me?" He asked timidly.
Katie could only stare at him in disbelief. "What?"
"Well, you won't tell me what happened, then you said we needed to talk." He said sadly.
Katie laughed. "No no no. Nothing like that." She said.
"Oh." Zac said, feeling a little silly. "Well, what?" He asked, sitting down on her bed.
"Well...This is kind of embarassing."
"Katie just tell me. You should have heard youself scream. Like you saw a mangled body gushing blood on the floor or something." Zac said.
"Well.. I did."
"What?"
"No, no no, not the mangled body or anything, but the blood."
Zac frowned. "Blood?"
Katie sighed. "Zac, I got my period. Okay? It was my first time, and I wasn't expecting it." SHe said. God, I can't believe i just said that. Could this be any more embarassing?
Zac's face paled a little, then he blushed. "Oh." He said quietly.
"I'm sorry I yelled, but I was embarassed, and I didn't know what to do." She said.
"That's okay." He said. He smacked himself in the forhead. "God, I feel so stupid."
"Don't be, you couldnt' have known." She said.
"Uh, I guess." He said.
"So you're not mad at me?"
"No." He said, smiling weakly. "If I would have known..."
"I know, but it was really really really embarassing, and that's hard to tell someone." SHe said.
"I guess." He said. "What are those for?" He asked, eyeing the Hershey's. Katie smiled.
"Nothing. You can have some."
"Cool." Zac said, grabbing a few. They sat in silence for a moment, then Katie got an idea.
"Since you biked all the way over here, do you want to stay for dinner?" She asked.
Zac's face lit up. "Yeah." He said. Katie should have known. Food always made Zac feel better.
"Okay then." She said, getting up.
"What are you having?"
"Same as usual. Speghetti." SHe said flatly.
"Fine with me." He said, pulling her up. They walked out into the hall, and Katie stopped him.
"I really am sorry for snapping at you." She said. "You didn't deserve that."
"That's okay." He said, giving her a quick kiss on the lips. "Just...tell me next time."
"Deal." SHe said happily. That felt sooooo much better.
