Katie smiled as she got out of bed the next morning, remembering the events of the previous evening. They had watched the fireworks, (which were beautiful) and then gone back to the Hanson's. Morgan, Taylor, Isaac, Zac, Katie, Krista, jessia, avery, sandra and melissa had gone for a late night swim in the hanson's pool.
When Katie got out of the pool, she had gone into the bathroom and changed her clothes and brushed out her curly hair. She went into the hall, Zac happened to be walking back from changing in his room. The two nearly collided, she remembered. They had been so close, and she even stared into his eyes. His was just leaning in to kiss her when mackie and Madison had gone racing down the hall between them, followed by what seemed like a million other people.
She was getting frusterated. She really wanted Zac, but she didn't want to screw things up for him. Tonight she was invited to a party of someone she didn't know, but Zac and Nicole were going, so she was too. She had borrowed another dress of Morgan's for the occasion. It was a sleevless, light purple dress with even lighter purple flowers on it.
Katie had had a blast going through Morgan's closet with her sister. It seemed like she had almost a whole new wardrobe.
Katie walked into Morgan's room where here sister was cleaning.
"Oh hi."
"Hi."
"So how was last night?"
"Great." katie said.
"Oh really."
"Yeah." Katie sighed.
"What?"
"He won't kiss me, Mo." She said, flopping down on her sister's bed.
"Well...." Morgan said. "Maybe he's just shy....or nervous." Morgan suggested.
"Yeah."
"Or maybe he wants to wait until he has a girlfriend to kiss her. I guess to make it more special." SHe suggested.
Katie just shrugged.
"I know, you're antsy."
"Really antsy." She said. "And there's this party at Nicole's tonight, and I know he'll be there." She said.
"Oh. Like, a makeout party or something?" Morgan asked.
"I'm not sure, but I don't think so."
"Oh."
"Yeah." Katie said.
"Taylor told me some things about Zac that you might want to know." Morgan said with a knowing smile, throwing away a wad of papers.
"Oh yeah?"
"Uh huh."
"Like what?"
"Like....He's been lifting weights everyday twice a day for the past month." Morgan said with a smile.
Katie gasped. "Oh my goodness..." She said. "I knew he had to be doing something."
"Yeah. Taylor told me that he was all worked up because he didn't want you to think he was a wimp." Morgan said.
"Aw..."
"And he's written countless love letters to you, but he's never had the guts to send them."
Katie was speechless.
"He's never had a crush before, Katie. You're his first one." Morgan said.
"I feel so.....special." She said.
"You should." Morgan said. "Taylor told me that after the pool accident, he moped around the house for like, six days."
"Oh my goodness."
"Yeah."
"I had no idea." Katie said.
"Well ya do now." Morgan said.
"Now I HAVE to go to that party." She said.
"Can I help you?" Morgan asked. "Like, get ready and stuff?"
"Sure! I could use all the help I can get." Katie said.
"Well what time does it start?" Morgan asked.
"Um, Nicole said that everyone would get there around eight." Katie said.
"Perfect." Morgan said, looking at her clock. "It's almost noon now, so let's relax a little."
"Okay."
"Let's go swimming!"
"Cool, lemme go change."
"Alright. That way you can get exercise and get some sun."
"Meet me in the hall in 5 minutes!" Katie called through the bathroom. She rumaged in her closet for a bathing suit, and decided on a plain blue one-piece. She wasn't out to impress anyone today. SHe put her hair in a ponytail, slipped on some flip-flops, and walked into the hall. Morgan emerged a few minutes later in a red bikini. Figures, Katie thought.
Once the two girls were outside, they slathered on sunblock and floated on rafts in the pool.
"Turn over every fifteen minutes." Morgan said, adjusting the radio to a good station.
"Okay." Katie said. The sun felt good today, and she couldn't wait for the party.
After a few hours of sun and some swimming, then were tired of the pool.
"Okay, so it's only three." Morgan said. "What do you want to do now?"
"Well for starters, eat lunch." Katie said. "I forgot to, I'm pooped."
Judy then came onto the porch. "Hey I need you two to babysit for a few hours. I gotta take Sandra and Krista to their dance class." Judy said.
"Oh, ok." Morgan said.
"I'll be back by six." Judy said.
"Six?"
"Yeah, i'm gonna go to the store."
"Oh." They both said. It took Judy nearly an hour and a half to get in the store, buy enough food to feed nine people, pay for it, and get it back out to the car.
"See ya." She said.
Once she was gone, the girls got out of the pool and headed inside. "You know, she's not as bad as I thought she would be." Morgan said.
"No." Katie agreed.
They walked in, and Melissa, Madison, and Ben ran up to them, begging for food. Katie made peanut butter and jelly while Morgan entertained Kristen, who was sitting in her swing.
"There goes our afternoon." Morgan mouthed to Katie across the table while they were eating.
Katie just nodded, and took a bite out of her sandwhich. By the time Judy got back, it was six thirty, and Morgan and Katie ran upstairs to get started.
"Okay, first, take a shower, you probabally still reek like that sunblock." Morgan said.
"Okay." Katie said. When she was done, she got out and dressed in a towel.
"First." Morgan said. "Nails." She pulled out an almost clear color that was tinted beige and had a little sparkle in it.
"Ohhhh....that's pretty."
"Yeah." Morgan said. "Put your foot up here." She said, motioning towards a stool in the corner. She painted Katie's nails and toes, and Katie thought they looked great.
"Thanks Mo." She said.
"Very elegant." Morgan said.
"Yes." Katie agreed.
"Now." Morgan said. "What are you going to wear?"
"I always wear skirts when I see him." Katie admitted. "How about some jeans?"
"Okay."
Katie went over to her closet and pulled out some dark blue jeans that she had never worn.
"Oh those are cute."
"I know. I don't know why I never wear them."
"Okay, so what for a top? You're going to be in someone's basement, so that might be chilly." She said.
"Okay." Morgan pulled out a light blue, long sleeved shirt. "Oh, i like this." She said. "It would bring out your eyes."
Katie looked at the shirt. "Okay." She said.
Katie got dressed, then put on some leather sandals. "You look great." Morgan said. "Now for that hair."
Morgan blew it dry, and it was very curly. She put a little gell on it to calm it down, and it looked very pretty. She loaned Katie some blue stoned earrings to wear. She put a little makeup on her, then stood back to admire her.
"Oh, you look so cute." She said.
"Thanks Morgan." Katie said. By then it was ten till eight. "I have to go."
"Wait!" Morgan said. She ran into her room and returned with a polaroid camera.
"Morgan." Katie whined.
"No, you have got to see how cute you are." She said.
"Okay." Morgan took several pictures of her, then they took a few self portraits of the two of them together. Katie smiled when she saw the pictures. Her sister was so crazy.
She hugged Morgan they grabbed her purse. "I'm driving you." Morgan said.
"Morgan, it's like, four doors down."
"So?" Her sister asked.
"Nevermind." katie said.
"Now I'll pick you up at midnight." SHe said. "I can't wait. You have to tell me everything." Morgan said.
"Okay."
By the time Katie got to the house, it was nearly eight fifteen. She said her goodbyes to Morgan then went into the house. The main floor was empty, but she saw light and music coming from the basement, so she opened the door and went down.
When she got to the bottom of the stairs, however, she stopped dead in her tracks. It wasn't a regular party. It was a makeout party.
"Oh my god." She said quietly to herself. SHe hadn't been prepared for this. There were at least twenty couples paired around the room, going at it. Music was playing loudly, and the room was very dim.
"I cannot believe this." She said to herself again.
This was going to be a long night.
