Born January 4, 1932........Huesca, Spain............ Spanish director Carlos Saura began a professional still photographer before turning to filmmaking in the early '50s, first as a teacher and then as a director of documentaries. He emerged from relative obscurity onto the world scene in 1966 with The Hunt, a subtly anti-Franco psychological drama that was widely shown and won several European film awards. In more recent years, he has become well known for his operatic film adaptation of Carmen (1983) and El Amor Brujo (1986). Saura has for over two decades been generally acknowledged as Spain's leading director, a position only enhanced with the fall of Franco's regime. .............Son born late 1974 .....Has had long time relationship with actress Geraldine Chaplin
