Born: Dec 22, 1972
Best known in the U.S. as Johnny Depp’s significant other (and mother of his child), the gorgeous, toothy singer-actress
Vanessa Paradis has actually been on the European radar since she was seven years of age, when she appeared on a French TV
talent show (courtesy of her uncle, a record producer) and sang "Emilie Jolie". Born in the Paris suburb of St. Maur, Paradis
grew up to become an international sensation as a pop singer and actress, particularly in France, where she has a success level
akin to that of Madonna or Cher in the United States.
In 1986, at a mere 14 years of age, Paradis had her first big hit in Europe when composer Franck Langloff and lyricist Etienne
Roda-Gil wrote a song for her entitled "Joe Le Taxi". The following year, she released her first album, M & J, which played to
great success and broadened her exposure overseas. She went on to appear in her first film, (Noce Blanche), in 1989, and her
second album, "Variations sur le meme t’aime" was released the following year.
In 1991, Paradis signed a lucrative contract with Chanel to be the spokesperson for Coco, their latest endeavor. The ads for the
fragrence famously modeled the singer after a bird in a cage, with photography by Jean-Paul Goude. Paradis followed this
modeling stint with a third album, on which she collaborated with rock singer Lenny Kravitz, who boosted her image stateside.
Paradis continued to impress movie audiences with her turn opposite Gérard Depardieu in the 1995 film Elisa, but it wasn’t
until 1999'sLa fille sur le pont, a dreamy black-and-white romance directed by Patrice Leconte, that she achieved worldwide
status as an emerging actress. Playing the object of affection of acclaimed French actor Daniel Auteuil, Paradis earned rave
reviews and a place in the hearts of smitten men all over the world.
UNE CHANCE SUR DEUX (1998) ....... aka Half a Chance
Cast: Jean-Paul Belmondo, Alain Delon, Vanessa Paradis.......Pure fun. Belmondo playing Belmondo and Delon playing Delon. Icons of French cinema. Vanessa plays Alice, a girl who is (again!) searching for her father (either Jean-Paul Belmondo or Alain Delon), so she reunites them and then sticks with them until she can be sure who her father really is.
The film itself cost 200 million francs, the most expensive budget ever for a french film.
Filmed in Paris, Nice and New-York........... TIME 1h 45 minutes ...........AVAILABLE
FILLE SUR LE PONT, LA.....Directed by Patrice Leconte....... La fille sur le pont is perhaps the most sensual film made by Patrice Leconte since Le mari de la coiffeuse. Shot in black-and-white in 16mm, the film also evokes a magical quality, so that when Leconte shows a rainbow, or the sunset over the Acropolis in Athens, we see colors. The main theme is confidence, the most important element in any relationship. The film begins with loud and vibrant Turkish gypsy music and immediately cuts to Adèle, a 21-year-old girl with a self-confidence problem. She faces a psychologist who is only a voice, unseen by the audience. This long monologue is a single take of about seven minutes. The next scene is on a Paris bridge where Adèle is contemplating suicide. All of a sudden, Gabor appears. He earns his living throwing knives around live targets and a desperate woman is an ideal potential partner. What follows is a road movie with fantastic dimensions. Two lost souls find each, as they travel through Europe trying their luck in posh casinos and always winning. They never make love, but the bond between them is very strong. Both Vanessa Paradis and Daniel Auteuil give perhaps the best performances of their careers..........AVAILABLE.
UN AMOUR DE SORCIERE (1997)
... aka Witch Way Love....Vanessa Paradis stars with Jean Reno and Jeanne Moreau, with whom she sang "The Whirlwind of Life" for the opening of the Cannes festival. Written and directed by René Manzor (The Crossing), and filmed in Venice, New York and France. The producer, Christian Fechner, also produced Elisa. Once upon a time there was a witch who couldn’t fall in love. She meets someone who has decided never to fall in love. In spite of all her powers, our young and seductive Morgane is unable to make her love potions work. Mansor: "I was astonished by the contrast
between the power of her acting and her "little bird" appearance. The set purpose in my writing was to turn my back on all the "Lolita" aspects of Vanessa Paradis." Everything was filmed twice. So there were two films in the end, one in French and the other in English.
Morgan is a witch, but a good one, and she doesn't want her son Arthur to become a sorcerer of evil like her cousin Molock. That's why she plans to take
his powers from him with a special ceremony. For that she needs the help of a

ELISA (1995) ....A controversial film in France. . Marie (Vanessa Paradis) has had a tough childhood ever since her mother Elisa commited suicide. She has spent most of her life in an orphanage and now makes a living as a small time criminal in Paris. Now she wants to unravel her past and find her father (Gerard Depardieu) which she blames for her mothers death.
A troubled young woman goes in search of the father she never knew in this French drama. In 1979, Elisa (Florence Thomassin)

wise beyond her years when it comes to men, and she lies as often as she tells the truth. With her friends Solange (a wonderful performance by Clotilde
Courau) and Ahmed (Sekkou Sall), Marie makes her way through a variety of small-time confidence games, but she's obsessed
with discovering the identity of her father, who abandoned her after the death of her mother years before. After intimidating a
number of civil service workers, Marie learns that her father is Jacques Desmoulins (Gerard Depardieu), a successful but
reclusive songwriter who lives on a small island where he uses alcohol to keep him company. Marie makes her way to Jacques'
