I don't know if you have ever heard of the Korean Comfort Women. I know I havn't untill recently. I guess I should tell you breifly about myself to let you know why I am intrested in such a story. I am a child of inqusitive & educated parents. Tho my parents are not by any means extreamly well off or famous, I was raised with the belief that if you look at the world and all its troubles you can find ways to live your own life better than thoes before you. My life hasn't been easy either but nothing like these experiances. It has been my personal passion for the last few years to try and bring attention to issues that are of great concern. I view the planet as if it were a small street & all of us are neighbours. My way of behaving is to make everyone feel like they are not a stranger. I smile at people I do not know. Help thoes who appear to need it and I am always trying to fight for people who are being mistreated in anyway. I am very passionate. This issue has been my latest passion because, as a young woman of the new milliemuiem, I reconise the possibility for history to repeat itself in the flicker of an eye. It is also my strong belief that we need to stick up for each other and not let serious issues slide, or be forgotton. And we should always, always, fight hard and long against individuals who believe that they have the right to distroy an other persons life for selfish purpose.

Something I have thought for a long time is often not shared by most people, and I tend to agree with them that it is very extreemist of me to beieve. But I have the idea that everyone is a person as soon as they are born. No matter what, they have rights that should be respected no matter what our selfish preducicial tendaniciys dictate, but if someone harms another individual then they become less of a person...the more they do this or the level they do this to dictates if they have rights or not. Now I am making it seem like a very balck and white issues here...it is not by any means. I am just trying to summerise other wise you would not be reading. So for a example, if you were to go out and harm a little child then you loose a good portion of your rights.

Now as I was saying, this issues of the Comfort Women is extreemly important. For a few reasons.
1-It is bascailly political rape and rape should never be permitted
2-The survivors are getting smaller and smaller
3-Japan not only did this BUT they have continually lied about it and no officaial leader can get his story straight.

Breif History
The "Comfort Women" were primarily Korean women, many of them teenagers who were taken by Japanese during the Pacific War & installed in "comfort stations" throughout occupied Asia for the pleasure of Japanese soldiers. Designated as "military supplies" on the Japanese manifests, the Comfort Women were shipped from battlefront to mining camp to factory town, enduring years of often brutal sexual servitude. Of the estimated 80,000 to 200,000 women who were conscripted, perhaps 75 percent died as casualties of the war, succumbing to venereal disease, tuberculosis, violence, & suicide. The others survived to live desperate lives in a society that despised them as "unclean." Theirs is a horrific story, only recently made public after a generation of silence & shame.
History of the "Comfort Women" taken fromhttp://boston.com/gardner/women.html
Example of one ‘comfort woman's story:
Li Bok-nyo, who was kidnapped from Korea by the Japanese military during World War II & forced to work in China for eight years as a sex laborer for Japanese soldiers. She was crippled by her captors to keep her from running away, & on one occasion she & others were forced to drink broth made from the severed heads of fellow "comfort women" who had been murdered by the Japanese when they rebelled. This & many other similarly moving photos by Ito Takashi, copyrighted in 1993, were used in the Bulletin of Concerned Asian Scholars to illustrate an article by Watanabe Kazuko, "Militarism, Colonialism, & the Trafficking of Women: Comfort Women' Forced into Sexual Labor for Japanese Soldiers," in vol. 26, no. 4 (1994). This article describes not only the experiences of these women during World War II, but also the movement in the nineties for them to be acknowledged & compensated by the government of Japan.
I have gathered some intresting articles about this horrid act I invite you to read them. They are long & they are very detailed but they are the most indepth articles I have yet read on this subject. I suggest that you save the pages to your computer then read them at your leasiure. But the graphics will not be saved along with the information.
